Lost Soul Aside receives some development updates

The first time I heard about Lost Soul Aside was in a video by YouTuber, SuperButterBuns, who detailed its interesting development.

The ambitious scale of the game was impressive and inspiring to see, as Lost Soul Aside was announced a couple of years ago by Yang Bing, the single-member who worked on the game.

Since then, Lost Soul Aside’s development team has grown and has received more support from Sony and China Hero Project.

Even when Yang Bing was the only person working on the game, the early gameplay looked flashy and impressive.

The character’s movements were inspired by the gameplay of Final Fantasy XV. Much like Noctis, Lost Soul Aside’s protagonist zips and flashes across the battlefield with a sword in hand, fighting off enemies at breakneck speeds.

That same impressive gameplay has been expanded upon a bit in a brand new trailer that was just released recently.

In the new trailer, we get some hints of a story and some gameplay that has been expanded upon from the initial gameplay we were shown in 2016.

Since then, it seems like Yang Bing and his team have been hard at work expanding the story and the flashy gameplay.

Upon seeing the fight between protagonist Kazer and a gold masked assailant; the emphasis on speed and weighty attacks make for a grand spectacle.

In particular, the fight against the masked man has some strong Devil May Cry vibes, alongside the original influence of Final Fantasy XV.

Teleports, weapon switching, grandiose attacks and blistering speeds are very much ingrained in Lost soul Aside’s DNA, as the gameplay seems difficult to keep up with visually.

Even in its cutscenes, the action never stops, as Kazer tears across dilapidated ruins while dodging gunfire from approaching enemies.

The scenes organically blend in with the standard gameplay, transitioning seamlessly from combat to action scene.

A brand new fantasy

The crazy fast speed of the game definitely makes the game feel different than its inspirations, as it feels like a nonstop action movie mixed in with some interesting fantasy lore.

According to the game’s website, the protagonist Kazer is fused with a creature from an ancient race. They then journey to collect crystals for some unknown purpose; the story definitely takes inspiration from Final Fantasy, crystals seemingly being the center of the narrative.

The tone from the trailer makes it seems like Kazer and his otherworldly companion will be on the run from some greater force, while trying to achieve their goal of obtaining those crystals.

If done correctly, this story could be a good time, depending on whether or not it’s executed in an interesting way.

Only time will tell whether or not Lost Soul Aside will be successful, but here’s to hoping that it comes out of the gate swinging.

Lost Soul Aside will release on PS4 and PS5 sometime in the future.
