Hollow Knight: Silksong is real; new gameplay revealed

Hollow Knight fans are clowns no longer, as Silksong has finally received a new gameplay trailer and an estimated release date. The sequel to the popular indie Metroidvania game hadn’t received any update for years, but the game is finally happening.

Team Cherry originally announced the sequel to their hit game back in 2019. It was supposed to be simply a DLC to the original Hollow Knight in which we would play as Hornet, one of the main characters and bosses of the game. But as the project grew, it was already becoming a game of its own.

But after the original E3 trailer by Nintendo, the developers have been silent about the game as if it didn’t even existed, something that drove fans mad. The silence was kept for almost three years, but we finally got a new trailer during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase.

The trailer shows Hornet as she explores the new land in which she finds herself, distant from the Hallownest we explore in the original game. Some of her moves come directly from her boss fights in Hollow Knight, but there are also new nail techniques in the mix.

The game feels fluid and polished, which will hopefully make the wait worthwhile. The new enemy bugs feel similar to what we’ve seen previously, but also feel unique in their own way. We could also see Hornet fighting the same white figure who was present in the previous trailer, someone that seems to be an important character.

When is the game being released?

The announcement stated that Silksong will be released within one year. No official date was given, but the game will be available in the Xbox Game Pass on Day One.

While the game was now showcased by Xbox, it previously received its first trailer through Nintendo, so it’s safe to say that the game will be available for the Xbox Series X/Y, Nintendo Switch and Pc.
