Elden Ring has launched to nigh universal acclaim, and the Steam player count seems to support that given it’s been setting a record on its own.

Elden Ring has been getting a hell of a lot (at least mostly) deserved praise since launch and going off the ever-useful Steam charts page, the praise isn’t far off the mark to say the last.

Elden Ring has launched itself to the 5th highest recorded playercount for a game on Steam, and depending on how you classify ARK: Survival evolved, the highest ever recorded single-player game player count. The highest peak thus far for Elden Ring has been recorded as 952,523 total consecutive users.

This means 952,523 people on Elden Ring at the same time, all playing on Steam – whether or not you’re a fan of Elden Ring and FROMSOFT games in general, this is quite the accomplishment for any game, particularly for a single-player game – which compared to multiplayer-focused titles, typically do not achieve similar heights.

In fact, if we continue with the assumption that ARK is not single-player, the closest game is Cyberpunk 2077, with a difference of more than 100k players behind – and the next record below that is Valheim, which is 300k below Cyberpunk, never mind Elden Ring.

Do you think FROMSOFT deserves this level of success from Elden Ring, or has the hype boosting the game to this particular Steam record a bit far for your tastes? Personally I’m hoping this level of success on Steam will prompt them to invest a bit more into PC ports in the future, as it’s a bit daft that I’m still looking at Xbox control prompts even if I’ve plugged in a PS5 controller and only used KBM controls thus far. C’mon guys, some basic support here would be nice.

How the hell else am I supposed to find the controls for things like two handing my weapon on PC otherwise without looking it up, after all? If you’re curious about that particular example; it’s left-click (or right-click, depending on weapon hand) while holding E. Good luck guessing that without a tip anywhere in the game for KBM players.
