All eyes have been on Elden Ring for many months, and even years now, with FromSoftware’s new action RPG being a collaboration between esteemed games director Hidetaka Miyazaki, best known for the Dark Souls series, as well as Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and George R.R. Martin, best known for the A Song of Ice and Fire series of books which inspired the popular TV show Game of Thrones.

Elden Ring was announced in 2019 and then players heard nothing for two years until it was finally shown off at E3 2021, with a release date being set for January 21, 2022.

Today, FromSoftware has announced that Elden Ring will now be delayed for a month, with the new release date being February 25, 2022.

In a tweet, FromSoftware announced the news saying,

“ELDEN RING will release on Feb 25, 2022, as the depth & strategic freedom of the game exceeded initial expectations. Thank you for your trust & patience. We look forward to seeing you experience the game in the Closed Network Test in Nov.”

Over the past year or so we have seen many games be delayed by a short amount of time, such as a month, to help polish the game further before it is released.

Some of these have worked, such as Final Fantasy 7 Remake which saw its release date pushed back from March 2020 to April 2020.

While some didn’t have the desired outcome, such as Cyberpunk 2077 which was delayed from November to December 2020, and we can all agree it should have still been in development now.

Even though it is only a month-long delay, it is worrying that it could become a much longer delay. Earlier this year Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was delayed for a short time, before eventually being delayed indefinitely.

Elden Ring will see a Closed Network Test take place in November, so the outcome of the game’s release date will likely be determined by that.

If the test goes off perfectly and fans are happy with it, then we will likely see it release in February, if it is a disaster then it could end up being delayed further.

Elden Ring will launch on February 25, 2022, on PC via Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S
