Some recent reports have suggested that Anthem is currently up in the air at EA, as they will hold a meeting to decide whether to finish overhauling and improving the polarizing game or to end it altogether.

This report comes from Bloomberg, who are citing “three people familiar with the matter” as the source for the rumors.

Anthem was originally released in February 2019 to generally poor reviews, with many stating that the game was overly repetitive and had issues with its story, among other problems.

Due to its failure to meet expectations, BioWare announced in February 2020 that they would be doing an overhaul of the game, referring to the project as Anthem Next. During this overhaul, they gave the project to BioWare Austin as they often handled live games.

During this time as well, Christian Dailey, an executive producer at BioWare Austin, made blog posts updating fans on Anthem Next and what would be done to improve the game. The improvements included increased frequency of loot drops, the ability to pursue specific loot, allowing players to equip loot immediately, and much more.

Having now been about a year since they announced Anthem‘s overhaul, it only makes sense that they should have to decide whether or not it seems worth it to continue on with reviving the game. The Anthem Next team currently consists of 30 people, and Bloomberg reported that the amount would need to be tripled in order for the game to continue being improved and brought back to life.

Due to a lack of players and interest, it is possible Anthem might not make it through, but you never know. There might be some life left in Anthem and we could possibly see big improvements in the game and revived interest.
