Fossils are one of many potential secondary objectives in Deep Rock Galactic, so knowing how they look can help net you a pay raise.

How do Fossils look in Deep Rock Galactic?

Fossils in Deep Rock Galactic have a blueish-grey shell on top of a yellowed rock. Unlike other secondary objective goals such as Boolo Caps or Ebonut shells, they are typically found on walls rather than all over the place, although they sometimes appear on the ceiling too.

This particular spawn habit can make them either much easier or much harder to find, depending on the biome you get them in. The early game Salt pits for example make them a very easy objective, as huge chambers are quite rare there.

Getting them on Sandblasted corridors, however, can make for a totally different experience. Sandblasted has plenty of huge chambers, on top of the fact the base of the fossil also blends in much better with the main terrain of the area, sand.

It’s worth noting that the blue-ish fossil itself does have a slight glow-in-the-dark property which may be useful for finding them if your team lacks a Scout for lighting.

If you intend to complete many secondary objectives like this, I would highly recommend adjusting your team to have a Scout. The ability to light up an entire room and grapple up to grab awkward spawn point resources is a huge time saver for secondary objective gathering.

Do also bear in mind that Fossils are a secondary objective. You can skip these and complete your mission just fine, you just get some extra rewards in the form of experience and extra pay if you can find enough of them.

If you’ve nearly completed your objective and don’t quite seem to have enough but can’t find anymore, make sure that everyone has deposited their inventory in full to Molly the Mule. Secondary objectives like these do not make progress when you pick up an item, only when you turn them in.
