While offense is a must in Fortnite, it can’t be denied that having a couple of defensive items will take you a long way. It can sometimes even be said that defense is the best offense, which could not be more true with the addition of the Guardian Shield in Fornite Chapter 4, Season 1.

Described as a “handheld shield that blocks ballistic fire and explosives,” this utility item will definitely give you the confidence you need to face and take down your enemies. However, the biggest question is this: How or where do you get the Guardian Shield in the first place?

This article will discuss where you can find this shield and how to use it. Feel free to read on, and you’ll soon be ready to tank bullets and other projectiles!

Where to find the Guardian Shield in Fortnite

You can get the Guardian Shield by opening Oathbound Chests. Note, however, that finding the shield in these chests is a matter of chance. In other words, opening a chest does not guarantee a Guardian Shield. Therefore, be sure to check out the map below for the locations of all Oathbound Chests and open as many as you can.

Oathbound chests are elongated white chests with gold accents. As you must have noticed, they can be found in areas with yellow grass on the map, such as Faulty Splits and The Citadel.

How to use the Guardian Shield in Fortnite

There are two ways in which you can use the Guardian Shield. It can be used straightforwardly by holding down the primary shoot button. This way, the shield will project a barrier and block incoming attacks, such as gunfire and rockets.

On the other hand, you can aim and throw the item down as a portable shield. Just remember to pick it up later after use!

While having the Guardian Shield gives you the upper hand in many situations, it’s not invincible, and its health or energy can be depleted. This is represented by the green bar on the right side of the item’s icon in your item list. The good thing is that this bar recharges over time, so be wary of when you should use it.
