While getting a companion in Bannerlord is a simple matter of finding them, getting to change companion equipment isn’t exactly explained. In fact, it’s not explained at all anywhere that I’ve seen.

In previous Mount and Blade games, you were able to access it through dialogue with the companion you wanted to adjust, but Bannerlord dialogue doesn’t offer such an option, so where can you find the change companion equipment screen?

How to access the change Companion equipment screen in Bannerlord

At any time on the world map of Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord, you can access the player inventory by pressing on the inventory bag icon in the bottom left corner or using the i key as a shortcut. Most players are already aware of this, but in that very screen are the easily missed previous and next character arrows surrounding the player name.

You can click on these arrows (or use shortcut keys Q and E) to change characters displayed in the inventory, which allows you to adjust and change Companion equipment at will in Bannerlord.

Be aware that this only works for characters currently in your party at the time, other party leaders or clan members will not be displayed this way.

You’ll still need items in your inventory to equip them with, much like when you edit your player character equipment loadout.

Or if you don’t have the items for it just yet, the good news is you can also access this change Companion equipment tab while in a shop screen using the same method, allowing you to easily figure out what to buy for them by comparing against what they already have.

You can use this to edit the equipment of any significant named character that is currently in your party. Nozhon shown here is the brother you get from starting a Sturgian character as an example, and is technically a lord, not a companion, but functions identically.

If you intend to have a companion lead a war party of their own, or perhaps a trade caravan, you can use this to change companion equipment, preparing them with weapons and armour for their future role in advance. They will retain them when sent off to their new task, and use them accordingly.

Try to outfit them according to their skills to make your purchases a bit more effective, though they will improve their skills with whatever you give them over time as they use them.
