The Pokemon anime has so many episodes at this stage its easy to miss things, for example, did you know that Brock caught a Tauros?

When in the Pokemon anime did Brock catch a Tauros?

There’s a reason you’ll likely not have seen this event occurring in the Pokemon anime, and that’s because it happened all the way back in the somewhat infamous banned episode EP035, featuring the Safari zone.

The episode never made its way outside of Asia due to the heavy presence of guns, which were mostly played as a comic effect in much of the episode but were still deemed too dark for the target audiences – children – by those dubbing the shows.

4kids entertainment is noted to have used footage of the episode in the Pokerap, which shows that they did have access to the episode and simply chose not to localise it for English speaking audiences.

In any case, the episode itself isn’t our topic here. During it, whenever Ash tries to capture a Pokemon, he somehow ends up with a Tauros each time, without fail. Brock borrows one of the Pokeball during the episode, and suffers a similar fate to Ash, netting himself a Tauros.

Now, the fate of this particular Tauros is a bit curious because of that detail. Brock is never shown using the Tauros, which could imply this detail was forgotten about – not entirely impossible given its a banned episode after all.

With that said, he did also capture it using Poke balls borrowed from Ash, so it arguably belonged to him – given the Safari uses its own type of Poke balls, it could mean that anything caught by them goes to whoever that set was given to. It’s also possible that either Ash wanted to keep all of the Tauros for himself by the end of the episode, or Brock simply didn’t make a point of trying to keep it – Ash could well have traded it to him or just transferred its ownership over if he had asked, after all.

Anything else to know?

That’s really everything on the topic of Brocks Tauros – its a bit of a curious story, and it’d be nice to see this addressed again in the future at some stage. Maybe when the horde of Tauros turns up again, one of them could recognise Brock as well, or something along those lines.
