If you’re tired of all those Magikarps in Pokemon BDSP, it’s time to get yourself a Good Rod. Getting it is essential to obtain the Super Rod later in the game and can be a great help if you feel like getting some extra splash on your current team.

Note that to get the Good Rod, the Old Rod is a prerequisite. It can be acquired from the fisherman in Jubilife City, and it’ll be your only way of getting some juicy fish out of the water for some time.

Where to get the Good Rod in BDSP

The Good Rod can be obtained in Hearthome City, right after defeating your Rival and concluding the visit to the Contest Hall. Head east towards Route 209, the connection between Hearthome and Veilstone, until you get close to a single fisherman getting his daily catch on the docks.

Talk to him, and when he notices your Old Rod in your inventory, he’ll give you a Good Rod, which will allow you to catch many different Pokémon from the previous choices. As they were, you know, Magikarps.

While you can still catch the silly red fishes with this new Rod, they are now able to appear over level 20, allowing them to instantly evolve right at the moment you level them a single time.

Goldeen, Finneon, and even the infamous Feebas can be caught with it, giving the player easy access to any water Pokémon if the situation demands. You can also set it up to a Registered Item slot in order to use it easier.

To get Pokémons by fishing, the process is the same as it has always been. By using it near any water spot, be it a lake, a river, or even the high seas, you have a chance of finding a wild Pokémon. After getting into the battle, simply catch it as you would in any other battle.
