Pokemon BDSP: How to Get HM Defog

In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl, an HM (or Hidden Machine) is used to teach a Pokemon a move that can be used outside of battle. For example, HM Surf can be used to traverse bodies of water and HM Cut can be used to get through certain plants that might be blocking your path. If you’re looking for HM Defog, an HM that will clear any fog that’s blocking your view, we have everything you need to know.

How to Get HM Defog in Pokemon

If you want to get your hands on HM Defog, you’re going to need to reach Pastoria City in the main storyline of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond or Pokemon Shining Pearl. This shouldn’t take you too long, but it’s a location you’ll reach after you’ve defeated the third Gym Leader – Maylene in the Velistone Gym.

Once you’re here, you’re going to need to head to the Pastoria Great Marsh – which is a little like the Trophy Garden – and pay 500 Poke Dollars to participate in a Safari Game. This is a great chance to get your hands on some new Pokemon, but also where you’ll find easy access to HM Defog. Trust us when we say you’re going to need Defog later in the game…

Once you’ve entered the Safari Game in the Pastoria Great Marsh, you’ll need to talk to the Ace Trainer – who will be an NPC in a red outfit with green hair – and they’ll give you the HM. There’s just one problem with this…

You won’t actually be able to use HM Defog until you’ve beaten Crasher, the Fourth Gym Leader in this generation of Pokemon games. This means you don’t actually need to get HM Defog as soon as you get to Pastoria City, but it can be a useful thing to pick up along the way – saving you time later down the line when you’re busy dealing with Team Galactic again.
