Genshin Impact: Who is the Scarlet King in Sumeru?

During the Lost in Prosperity quest in Sumeru, the Traveler and Paimon went to Port Ormos and searched for leads about a “stolen item.” Here, they would learn something about the Scarlet King, who had already died over a thousand years before.

Little is known about this king except for what some Eremite mercenaries would later share with you. Members of a faction called Ayn Al-Ahmar, these mercenaries are descendants of the said king’s subjects and are devout believers of him.

Throughout your conversation with the mercenaries, they implied that the Scarlet King would somehow be resurrected. Moreover, according to them, this king was the rightful God of Wisdom but was betrayed by the former Dendro Archon, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata. They even said that the former Dendro Archon destroyed the king’s civilization in the desert, forcing their ancestors to flee to present-day Sumeru.

However, who exactly was the Scarlet King, and what role did he play in Sumeru? Here’s what we know so far.

Who is the Scarlet King in Genshin Impact?

Over a thousand years before the current events in the game, Sumeru had “Three God-Kings.” These include the Greater Lord Rukkhadevata, the Goddess of Flowers, and the Scarlet King.

These God-Kings lived in harmony and pursued their own path toward “wisdom.” In fact, they were all friends. Eventually, the Scarlet King fell in love Goddess of Flowers, who was aware of his feelings, and the two built the ancient kingdom of Ay-Khanoum or the “City of the Moon Maiden” in the ancient language of the Jinn.

However, for reasons currently unknown, the Goddess of Flowers died. Mourning deeply for his lost love, the Scarlet King went mad. Because of this, the Greater Lord Rukkhadevata decided to go on her own and created an oasis in the desert, where a rainforest began to thrive.
