Genshin Impact: Faceless Ayato trends on social media

While Genshin Impact isn’t known to have unique Halloween events, a series of recent videos on Tiktok about the popular action role-playing game has given fans a late Spooktober feels.
The videos in question feature Kamisato Ayato, the Yashiro Commissioner, and the current head of the Kamisato Clan. However, in these videos, he doesn’t appear to be the same charming character who thrilled fans when he was released in Version 2.6. His face is even completely blank!

Faceless Ayato appears in a viral Tiktok video
In the first viral video posted by Tiktok user with the handle @bubumi_, the faceless Ayato could be found on top of a statue, which appears to be the Anemo Archon Statue in Mondstadt.
According to the Tiktok user, reportedly a Russian Genshin Impact player, this video should have been about the 4-star Cryo character Diona. The popular bartender of The Cat’s Tail could be seen doing her Normal Attacks until the player noticed Ayato on top of the statue.
Seeing this, the player moved closer to Ayato, who turned to them. Here’s where they found the faceless Ayato with an entirely black face except for the eyes.
The TikTok user also claims that they do not have Ayato and that they were playing single mode. They also shared that the game was downloaded from an “unknown website because official Genshin is not working.”

Fans create faceless Ayato memes and fanart
The video with the faceless Ayato was posted in the last 24 hours and has since made over a million views. The TikTok user has also made other videos revolving around the same incident, which has become a subject for discussion and, as expected, some memes and fan art.
Checking the hashtag #facelessayato on Twitter results in various fanart about the viral video, including one from user Relly. The tweet says:

This incident of allegedly finding a faceless Ayato in-game has made fans think that Genshin Impact is now going into its Creepypasta era. Others even compared the faceless Ayato to Minecraft’s Herobrine. It can be recalled that Herobrine is the subject of a community-made Creepypasta and is a major community icon of Minecraft.

Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game developed by miHoyo, also known as HoYoverse. The game is available on PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android, while a release on Nintendo Switch is currently in the works.
