Genshin Impact is a hugely popular game at the moment and there’s a good chance you’ve already heard of it – you may even have friends who already play the game, but does it have multiplayer?

Can you play with those friends if they also play the game, or is it solo only?

Luckily, that’s precisely what this article is designed to help answer, so read on.

Does Genshin Impact have Multiplayer?

In a word, yes. But there are some fairly significant caveats to that.

For starters, Multiplayer has to be unlocked by reaching a specific level – which may seem unusual to some players. This multiplayer access is granted to the player at Adventure Rank 16.

Adventure rank 16 isn’t a hugely lofty goal – you will likely reach it in the first few days of gameplay. But with that said, it is enough of a barrier to stop players potentially playing multiplayer right from the start of the game.

Another key difference is the multiplayer character limits. Where as in single player the player would control 4 total characters they can swap through at will, it works differently in multiplayer.

Instead of the usual system, the party is split between players with priority to the hosting player. This means that in two player CO-OP, each player will get two characters to control and swap through at will.

In three-player CO-OP, the priority system comes in – each joining player will get a single character, while the host is allowed to choose two. In the event of four players, characters are split up with one each per player.

Is the Multiplayer worthwhile?

If the above doesn’t sound like much of a barrier to you, then that’s great – you might well enjoy Genshin Impacts multiplayer mode.

With that said, there are a long list of things you can and cannot do in Co-op games, some more sensible than others.

In any case, the multiplayer should be considered a fun little addition to try out with your friends who also play the game, but be careful about expecting to play the entire game together – there are a fair number of restrictions in Co-op gameplay.

All in all, give it a go and have fun with it, just don’t expect to play the entire game together without any issues arising during it.
