Genshin Impact 2.7: What boss do you need to farm for Yelan materials

Yelan has arrived in Genshin Impact with patch 2.7 releasing, so what boss do you need to farm to ascend her? As always, boss materials will be required, but which boss varies by character.

What boss do you need to farm for Yelan?

The boss that you must beat to ascend Yelan in Genshin Impact 2.7 and beyond is the Ruin Serpent, a recently added boss found in the underground of the Chasm area.

If you completed exploring the Chasm in the 2.6 Genshin Impact update, you’ll be able to access this easily. But if not, don’t worry, as you can access the Ruin Serpent fairly quickly.

As soon as you unlock the underground section of the Chasm via the quests, you only need to follow the storyline for about 2 more quests before you end up briefly spotting Yelan during a cutscene, and following the direction she flees in will take you straight to a teleport beacon close to the Ruin Serpent.

How to fight the Ruin Serpent

The Ruin Serpent is another of the Mechanical Ruin theme enemies in Genshin Impact and as such exists somewhat outside the usual elemental interactions system.

While this means that characters likely won’t do much in the way of enhanced damage with a specific element while fighting the Ruin Serpent for Yelan materials, it also means that no one will be dealing massively reduced damage while using their elemental bursts or elemental skills, allowing most if not every character to have a good shot at farming it.

It is recommended that you have reached at least far enough to have tier 3 Lumenstone to allow you to cleanse the dark patches from the Arena though, so you might not wish to challenge it immediately upon accessing the area for the first time.

Or, if you’re anything like me, you’ll fight it anyway.

The good news for those types of players is that you can win without the Lumenstone upgrade. The Ruin Serpent will die when it runs out of health, regardless of the amount of dark ooze left around the arena, though it’s likely worth investing in Lumenstone tier 3 to cleanse these patches of ooze if you intend to farm the boss over and over again for Yelan materials, which is likely what you’re doing here with this boss.

If you’re curious about how much investment you should put in Yelan now that she’s arrived in Genshin Impact 2.7, you can give her a swing in the test run to see if you like her, and check out her constellations here to see if they’re worth going for.
