Epic Games is no stranger to taking “inspiration” from other games, after all the Battle Royale portion of Fortnite was created in just two months after seeing the success of PUBG.

The recent 17.40 update saw the new Imposters mode added to the game, which is strikingly similar to Among Us.

Among Us’ developers, Innersloth has played the new mode and they’re disappointed in Epic Games for directly copying many aspects of the game and would have liked to work together to make a more unique experience.

Fortnite’s new Imposters LTM and Among Us share a lot of similarities, right down to the dialogue used during discussions.

The mode feels like a carbon copy of Among Us, and Innersloth is aware of this.

Victora Chan, the community director at Innersloth, took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the game.

“It would’ve been really, really cool to collab haha. Just sad indie hours rn.”

“Like game mechanics fine, those shouldn’t be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting?”

In May 2021 we saw Among Us become the free game of the week on Epic Games Store, indicating the two companies have a working relationship with each other, so it is surprising that Epic Games didn’t consult them on ideas and advice for the new mode.

While it is a lot of fun, and a really easy way to farm XP, it does just feel like you’re playing Among Us with a Fortnite skin, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it would have been great to see some new ideas on the table from Epic Games.

It is possible that we will see the mode updated over time and it could differentiate itself from Among Us in the future, or it could just be a limited mode that will disappear in a week as we’ve seen with many new modes, such as the recent survival style LTM.
