Mario Strikers Battle League: List of characters

Last Updated on: 26th June 2022, 07:59 pm

To be released tomorrow, 10 June 2022, Mario fans will just have to wait for a few hours until Mario Strikers: Battle League becomes available on Nintendo Switch.

It’s the third game of the Mario Strikers series, following Mario Strikers: Charged, which was originally released for Wii in the late 2000s. After over a decade, the game is finally followed up with another one, and fans have every reason to get excited.

One of the many things that fans look forward to is the game’s roster of playable characters which we will be discussing in this article.

Which characters are in Mario Strikers: Battle League?

Unlike its predecessor which had 20 characters, the new game only has 10 characters. These characters are:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Bowser
  • Peach
  • Rosalina
  • Toad
  • Yoshi
  • Donkey Kong
  • Wario
  • Waluigi

While this is a bit disappointing, there’s a reason why there are fewer characters in the new game.

Why are there fewer characters?

The new slightly different gameplay of Mario Strikers: Battle League is the main reason why there’s a significant difference in the number of characters between the new game and its predecessor.

In Mario Strikers: Charged, there were 12 captains and 8 sidekick characters to choose from, with the 12 captains each having a Special Ability.

On the other hand, the teams in Mario Strikers: Battle League are composed of four equal party members. The new game still has captains, but all characters have Special Abilities and can be customized to boost their stats. This way, the game is less restrictive, and all characters have potential.

Will new characters be added to Mario Strikers: Battle League?

Nintendo has previously confirmed that Mario Strikers: Battle League will have DLC characters post-launch. This isn’t a surprise considering that games in the present day almost always include unlockable or DLC characters.

While the video game company remains tight-lipped about which characters and how many of them they’re going to add, Nintendo data miner @Wipeoutjack7 posted on Twitter that fans can expect 10 more characters on top of the original roster, saying:

“Mario Strikers has 10 characters at launch, but 20 character slots. Looks like there may be an additional 10 coming through the recently announced free DLC.”

If this number turns out to be true, there’s a huge chance that characters such as Daisy, Shy Guy, and Petey Piranha, would be making their return.
