Is Splitgate available on the Nintendo Switch?

Splitgate is a popular shooter game with high mobility due to its portaling mechanic, but is available on Switch?

Is Splitgate on the Switch?

For the moment, Splitgate is not available on the Nintendo Switch as either a physical game or an online download. There hasn’t really been much in the way of recent news indicating that that will be changing any time soon, either.

It’s looking quite likely that a Switch version of Splitgate is a ways off at best, in other words.

It’s worth mentioning though that the CEO of 1047 Games has previously mentioned that he ‘loves the Nintendo Switch’ in a quote he gave to the Loadout when asked about the handheld Nintendo console, shown below.

“We love the Nintendo Switch,” Proulx tells The Loadout. “And we want to see Splitgate on every platform if and when that makes sense.

So at the very least it seems 1047 is certainly interested in getting Splitgate available wherever they can, and wherever it makes sense; signalling that a Switch version isn’t an impossibility at least, though not exactly giving an idea of when or if we can expect one.

I’m not sure how I feel about the Nintendo Switch getting Splitgate, honestly. It makes total sense for docked mode, though for the handheld mode it seems like there’d be significant struggles to compete with players on other systems through the crossplay system – which can be turned off for those who don’t want it at least, though it’s questionable if that option would be allowed on a Switch version given we don’t know how large an audience to expect as the game is struggling with Steam currently.

Still, expanding the overall player pool and bringing a good quality free game to more consoles and systems is usually a good thing, so I’m hopeful we’ll see Splitgate on the Nintendo switch one day. Perhaps when the next season launches it’ll trigger a player base increase and merit some more expansion.
