Firebase Z, the second Cold War Zombies map, is coming at the end of Season One. Here’s everything we know about the continuation of the Dark Aether storyline.

“Just when you thought the next chapter in the Dark Aether story was coming in Season Two…”

Much to Cold War Zombies’ fans surprise, Treyarch have decided to move forward the launch of their second map. Following the destruction of the “Projekt Endstation” site in Die Maschine’s Easter Egg, Requiem’s job isn’t over.

Outpost 25, set in the depths of the Vietnam, is the next Dark Aether outbreak they need to tackle. It is known by the code name “Firebase Z”.

We don’t know exactly what it will look like, but this 115 Day teaser does suggest it might incorporate some aspects of the World at War Zombies map set in a Japanese Swamp: Shi No Numa.

This wouldn’t be the first time assets were re-used and built upon, as Nacht Der Untoten features heavily in Die Maschine.

Cold War Zombies Firebase Z Release Date

Originally scheduled to launch with Black Ops Cold War’s Season Two, Firebase Z is now coming on February 4, 2021. It will be free for all players.

There is no news as to whether we will get another Zombies map during Season Two, although it seems unlikely given this appears to just have a “moved up” release date.

New Perks Are Coming

Tombstone is coming to Black Ops Cold War Zombies with Firebase Z.

When you get downed, with Tombstone equipped you will “become a shadow in the Dark Aether armed with your weapons that can revive you.”

This, like the other perks in Cold War Zombies, can be upgraded with Aetherium Crystals. Below are what you get with each Tier:

  • Tier I – Shadow Form can regenerate lost health
  • Tier II – Increased downed duration to 60 seconds
  • Tier IIIOn death, drop a Tombstone that saves your weapons, equipment, and resources

Die Maschine Isn’t Going Anywhere

Fear not, fans of the original, Die Maschine isn’t going anywhere. It will still be avaiable to play on Black Ops Cold War.

It’s worth noting though, the Tombstone Perk will only be available to purchase through the Der Wunderfizz machine. This only spawns after you’ve entered the Dark Aether and can be found on the roof of the “Nacht der Untoten” building!
