Fortnite Gyro Aiming Settings: How to Turn It On and Fix Aim Assist

Fortnite gyro aiming lets you move your controller or supported device to help adjust where you’re looking. Epic places the setting under Touch and Motion > Gyro Options, and turning it on changes another familiar feature: aim assist is disabled whenever gyro aiming is active.

That can make your controls feel unexpectedly different if you’ve spent months building muscle memory around the right stick. It’s worth testing gyro on a calm map before queueing for Ranked, especially if you were only trying to make small aiming corrections.

How to enable Fortnite gyro aiming

Launch Fortnite, open Settings from the profile menu and move to the Touch and Motion tab. In Gyro Options, turn Gyro Aiming on and adjust any additional controls offered by your device. Apply the change and enter a match or practice mode to test it. Epic says that if the Touch and Motion menu is missing on Amazon Luna, players should contact Amazon Luna support.

How movement affects your crosshair

With Fortnite gyro aiming enabled, motion detected by the supported controller or device influences camera or aim movement. Tiny rotations can be enough to change your reticle position, so avoid throwing the controller around or assuming you’ll get the same response as mouse movement. Keep the right stick available for broader turns if your chosen control setup supports that combination.

Fortnite gyro aiming: why aim assist disappears when gyro is active

Epic explicitly states that aim assist is disabled whenever gyro is active. If you switch on Fortnite gyro aiming and then can’t see the old aim-assist behaviour, that is expected. Switch gyro off if you want to return to traditional controller aim assist. You don’t need to reinstall the game or change your Epic account to restore it.

Where to change aim-assist strength

For standard controller aiming, open Controller Options > Sensitivity and enable Use Advanced Options to expose Aim Assist Strength. Epic suggests 100% as a conventional starting point, with lower settings available for preference. Aim Assist Strength does not override the rule that active gyro disables aim assist. Be aware that not every control is present on every device.

Does gyro work on every platform?

Gyro depends on supported motion hardware, the client and the platform exposing the setting. Don’t assume a basic Xbox controller has the same motion sensors as a controller built for gyro use. If Touch and Motion isn’t shown, check the selected device and whether Fortnite offers the option there. A PC using an unsupported controller won’t gain physical motion sensors through a Fortnite menu.

How to tune gyro without making yourself dizzy

Begin with gentle controller movements to learn the direction and amount of camera motion. Keep the sensitivity modest until your aim stops overshooting, then increase it in small steps. Test tracking a stationary point, then a moving target. Fortnite gyro aiming is a separate aiming method, so copying somebody else’s stick sensitivity may not produce the same result.

Troubleshooting controls that feel broken

If the reticle drifts or reacts when you don’t intend it to, switch gyro off temporarily and test standard stick controls. Check for controller firmware or connection issues, and make sure your physical movement isn’t being interpreted while resting the controller. If Fortnite gyro aiming is not what you want, disabling it also lets the normal aim-assist settings apply again where eligible.
