Fortnite Gem Sprites released on August 6, 2026, with all eight new variants now available to find across the Battle Royale island. The weekly New Sprite Day refresh is live, allowing players to hunt for Gem Water, Gem Earth, Gem Demon, Gem Duck, Gem Aura, Gem Punk, Gem Zero Point and Gem Grim.
The Fortnite Gem Sprites released at 6:00 AM PT, 9:00 AM ET and 2:00 PM BST. Players can now enter a new match, search the correct locations and extract each Sprite to add it permanently to their collection.
All eight variants provide the same special effect. Carrying a Gem Sprite reduces fall damage by 30 percent, making the new collection useful during fights around mountains, cliffs, buildings and other elevated locations.
Fortnite Gem Sprites released on August 6
The Fortnite Gem Sprites released as part of the regular Thursday New Sprite Day event. The refresh did not require the beginning of a new Fortnite season or a major period of server downtime.
Players already inside Fortnite when the launch time passed may need to return to the lobby and start a fresh match before the updated Sprite pool appears. Restarting the game may also help if the new variants are not appearing after the scheduled release time.
The Fortnite Gem Sprites released globally at the same moment. The update went live at the following regional times:

| Pacific Time | August 6 | 6:00 AM |
| Mountain Time | August 6 | 7:00 AM |
| Central Time | August 6 | 8:00 AM |
| Eastern Time | August 6 | 9:00 AM |

All eight Fortnite Gem Sprites released today
Eight Fortnite Gem Sprites released during the August 6 refresh. Each variant has a different environment, chest or secured location connected to its spawn.
| New Gem Sprite | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Gem Water Sprite | Rivers, beaches and waterside areas |
| Gem Earth Sprite | Forests and wooded locations |
| Gem Demon Sprite | Rare drop from Sprite Chests |
| Gem Duck Sprite | Inside the Mogul Vault |
| Gem Aura Sprite | Mountains and elevated locations |
| Gem Punk Sprite | Rare drop from Sprite Chests |
| Gem Zero Point Sprite | Sprite Chests and Relic Chests |
| Gem Grim Sprite | Rare drop from Sprite Chests |
Gem Water, Gem Earth and Gem Aura should be the easiest variants to target because players can deliberately visit the environments connected to their spawns.
Gem Demon, Gem Punk, Gem Zero Point and Gem Grim may take considerably longer. These Fortnite Gem Sprites released as rare chest drops, meaning opening one Sprite Chest will not guarantee the variant a player needs.
Where to find the new Gem Sprites
Now that the Fortnite Gem Sprites released, players should choose a specific variant before entering each match. Randomly searching the island is unlikely to be as effective as creating a route around one environment or loot source.
Players looking for Gem Water should land beside rivers, beaches or other waterside areas. Following a river through the island can provide several opportunities to locate the Sprite without relying on a chest.
Gem Earth appears in forests and heavily wooded locations. Large forest areas are likely to provide more potential spawns than isolated groups of trees.
Gem Aura is connected to mountainous and elevated areas. These locations may be more dangerous because players can be spotted from a distance or attacked while climbing.
Gem Duck requires players to access the Mogul Vault. Anyone targeting this Sprite should build their entire landing route around reaching and opening the vault.
Rarest Sprites in the August 6 release
The Fortnite Gem Sprites released with four variants tied primarily to rare chest drops. Gem Demon, Gem Punk and Gem Grim can appear in Sprite Chests, while Gem Zero Point can appear in both Sprite Chests and Relic Chests.
Players hunting these variants may need to open multiple chests across several matches. A repeatable route containing several Sprite Chest locations will provide a better chance than visiting one chest and then searching randomly.
Gem Zero Point has a small advantage because it is available from two different chest types. However, access to both Sprite Chests and Relic Chests does not guarantee an immediate drop.
Players should extract a rare variant as soon as it is found. Continuing to fight or search after obtaining a new entry creates a greater chance of being eliminated before it is permanently registered.
What happens after finding a Gem Sprite?
The Fortnite Gem Sprites released as part of the permanent Sprite collection system. Finding one during a match does not automatically complete its collection entry.
Players must collect the Sprite and successfully extract it. Being eliminated before the extraction is completed means the variant will not be permanently added to the collection.
Lucky Locators can help players search for available Sprites, while Portable Extractors provide a way to secure a new discovery. Players should prepare these items before deliberately hunting the rarest variants.
Once a Gem Sprite has been extracted, it becomes part of the player’s collection and can be summoned during later matches through the seasonal Sprite systems.
What do Fortnite Gem Sprites do?
When the Fortnite Gem Sprites released, Epic Games confirmed that Gem variants reduce fall damage by 30 percent while carried.
The effect can help during fights around high buildings, mountain paths, cliffs and player-built structures. It may also protect players who are knocked from high ground or forced to jump to escape the storm.
Gem Sprites do not completely remove fall damage. A large enough drop can still cause serious damage or eliminate a player, particularly if their health has already been reduced.
The effect is passive while the Sprite is carried, so players do not need to activate a separate ability to receive the fall-damage reduction.
Why are Gem Sprites not appearing?
Although the Fortnite Gem Sprites released worldwide, players are not guaranteed to encounter one immediately. All of the existing Sprite types and variants remain part of the Thursday pool.
This means a Sprite spawn may produce an older variant instead of one of the new Gem additions. The chest-exclusive versions are also rare drops, so several matches may be required.
Players who cannot find any new variants should confirm they have started a fresh match since the launch time. Returning to the lobby or restarting Fortnite may ensure the live refresh has been applied.
The correct environment is also important. Gem Duck should not be hunted at ordinary outdoor Sprite locations, while Gem Demon, Gem Punk and Gem Grim require players to concentrate on Sprite Chests.
Gem Sprite Power Hours begin August 8
The Fortnite Gem Sprites released on August 6, but players will receive another opportunity to complete the collection during Gem Power Hours on Saturday, August 8.
The weekend event will provide boosted opportunities to encounter the Gem variants. It should be particularly valuable for players still missing rare chest drops after searching during New Sprite Day.
Players do not need to wait until Saturday to begin collecting them. All eight Fortnite Gem Sprites released during the Thursday refresh and can be found in normal matches now.
Gem Power Hours simply provide a stronger opportunity to complete any missing collection entries. Until then, players can search rivers, forests, mountains, the Mogul Vault, Sprite Chests and Relic Chests for the full August 6 set.
