The Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite uses less stamina when sprinting through water and gains the Slap effect at maximum level. It is one of the new Treasure Hunters characters introduced on Crossbones Isle in November 2026, and its ability is aimed at movement rather than damage.
That distinction is useful before you commit to levelling it. Barry makes watery routes easier to travel, but Epic does not say it offers unlimited stamina or the same benefit when sprinting on land. Here’s how to look for it and get value from its power.
Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite ability and Slap effect
Barry O’Fish reduces stamina spent while sprinting in water. If a route takes you through channels, waterfront areas or other stretches of water, keeping more of your stamina available can help you continue moving rather than stopping to recover it.

The second ability is the Slap effect, which Barry grants once you reach maximum Sprite level. It’s a reward for developing the Sprite, not something you receive just by picking it up.
How to find the Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite
Epic’s new treasure-hunting route begins with Wanted Posters on walls. Pull one down and it turns into a Sprite Treasure Map. Follow the map to the buried Sprite Chest, uncover it and see which character you get.
A Sprite Chest is a confirmed route to finding Sprites, but it is not a guaranteed Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite drop. Epic hasn’t identified a fixed Barry spawn or one named location that always rewards him. Keep searching and check each Sprite as you find it instead of following a claimed guaranteed coordinate.
Once you collect a Sprite through Fortnite’s extraction system, you can bring collected Sprites into future matches. The seasonal Sprites screen now shows entries in numbered order and displays Sprite Stamps to record how each one was obtained.
How to level Barry O’Fish for Slap
Levelling is where the Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite gets its second reason to be used. The water-stamina effect is the base ability; Slap comes at maximum level. Track the actual equipped Sprite’s progression rather than assuming a particular number of matches will complete it.
Mastery Monday runs every Monday from 9 AM Eastern Time, which is 2 PM GMT in the UK on 2 November. Epic doubles Sprite XP and Sprite Dust for the day, so it is a helpful time to work on the characters you want to develop. A double-XP window still requires playing and earning progress.
Best uses for the Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite on Crossbones Isle
The best time to bring Barry is when you expect to use the island’s water instead of staying on roads. Crossbones Isle has waterfront settlements, bays and channels that can form part of a longer route. With less stamina spent in water, you have another reason to choose those crossings.
Barry O’Fish vs Kelper and Cursed Sprites
The Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite and Kelper are not interchangeable. Barry reduces stamina used for water sprinting; Kelper gradually restores health while you’re in water, with stronger healing at higher levels. One helps you travel; the other helps you recover.
There is a serious catch with Cursed Sprites. Epic says Cursed variants improve the chance of finding rare Sprite variants, but water damages the player. Reduced stamina use does not cancel that damage. Don’t treat a Cursed Barry as an automatically safe way to sprint across a channel.
The Fortune variant instead reveals nearby Chests. That can help when gathering supplies, but it doesn’t change what Barry’s water-sprint ability does. For more water-specific choices, Lil’ Squibbly provides fish and bonus loot from fishing holes.
Is Barry O’Fish worth using?
The Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite is worth carrying for water-heavy routes, especially if you’re working towards its max-level Slap effect. It is less appealing if your route stays on dry ground and you need immediate combat or healing help.
When you’re hunting the Fortnite Barry O’Fish Sprite, use the Wanted Poster and Sprite Chest system as your starting point, then check the Sprites screen to track your collection. For the other new characters, see our Fortnite Treasure Hunters Sprites guide.
