Group A:

  • Fnatic (LEC)
  • Beyond Gaming (PCS)
  • Detonation FocusMe (LJL)
  • Evil Geniuses (LCS)
  • LOUD (CBLOL)
  • Chiefs Esports (LCO)

Group B:

  • MAD Lions (LEC)
  • DRX (LCK)
  • RNG (LPL)
  • Isurus (LLA)
  • Saigon Buffalo (VCS)
  • Denzibank Wildcats (TCL)

One thing to note from the play-in stage at Worlds 2022 is that at least one major region will be eliminated before the group stage. Since the LEC, LCK, LCS, and LPL have one or more representatives in the group stage, one of them, if not more, will be eliminated depending on what happens during the stage itself.

This could mean that the defending MSI champion RNG could not make it to the group stage, which would be on the same level as FPX last year, falling at Worlds 2021 in the group stage. The most likely teams to fall, however, are Evil Geniuses and MAD Lions since both did not have good showings in their respective playoffs to get to this point.

The top two for each group in the play-in stage will move on to the Group stage, where they will meet four other teams waiting for them the entire time.

After the groups were drawn, fans of each team participating wanted to know if their team landed in what has been known as the “Group Of Death.” This group is typically made up of teams that the community has labeled as one of the favorites for the tournament, with one team seen as significantly weaker than its opponents.

This year, there are two groups of death. Group A and Group B are seen as doom for Cloud9 and G2 since their opponents are very good this year, and it will be hard for them to move on from the group stage.

Now that the 2022 Worlds group draw is done, it’s just time to wait for the tournament to start. The first stage of the tournament, the Play-In stage, will take place in Mexico City from September 29th till October 4th. Following the results of the play-in stage, the top two from each group will be placed in a Group stage group and start a second round robin.
