2022 League of Legends Worlds Groups day two recap

Top Esports fans cheering during the Worlds groups day two

Last Updated on: 9th October 2022, 04:55 pm

The 2022 League of Legends Worlds groups day two had promise going into it. With Edward Gaming Hycan, Cloud9, Fnatic, T1, and Rogue playing, some of them playing their first game of the tournament.

Will Korea and China continue their dominance over the western teams, or will the west take a game off of the regions that have dominated international events? In addition to watching for that, will North America be able to win their first game of the group stage, or will the region as a whole remain winless?

Worlds groups day two holds the answers to all of that, and some exciting games on top of everything. Fans are really in for a treat today.

The west rose, at least a little bit

Coming into the day, the west had seen some ups and some downs. For the North American angle, they started the day off with zero wins as a region and ended with zero wins as a region. Europe did the heavy lifting for the western teams, picking up wins against T1 and DRX.

North America has just not looked good, despite being the host region for the tournament. Their drafts have not been good, they have not played well or adapted to their competition, and have seemed to falter under the big lights.

The draft bubble has really hurt the teams from North America, considering the rumors about them scrimming each other while waiting for the other teams to show up for Worlds due to the solo queue environment not being as good as what was available for each team back home.

While the prevalence of carrying junglers with supportive midlaners was what really showed up on day one for everyone else, North American teams were left scrambling as they were still playing with strong midlanes and supportive junglers. This has led to their opponents getting leads through ganks, putting the strong lanes behind, and letting their opponents run all over them.

Europe, on the other hand, has adapted quite well to the developing Worlds meta. Players like Jankos, Malrang, and Razzork have jumped onto the carry junglers and played well for their teams. We’ve seen them play the likes of Maokai and Sejuani from them as well, but they have been playing much better than what we’ve seen from the North American teams.

From the upcoming schedule, a winless record is looking more and more likely for North America. For a host region, this should not be acceptable for the teams and hopefully, a change is coming in the next couple of days, leading to the region performing much better against their competition and winning at least one game.
