2022 League of Legends Worlds Groups day six recap

Fans cheering during Worlds Groups day six

Last Updated on: 16th October 2022, 08:21 am

With Worlds groups day six reaching us and Group A being decided yesterday, it is time for Group B to decide their final seeding. At the beginning of the day, JDG Intel Esports Club and Damwon Kia both held the top spots in the group, with Evil Geniuses and G2 Esports behind them.

Can Evil Geniuses do what Cloud9 was not able to do yesterday and stun the world while making it to the quarterfinals, or will they fall after winning a single game? Can G2 Esports get it together and make a run, or will they be doomed to follow in the footsteps of Fnatic?

For JDG Intel Esports Club and Damwon Gaming, they have to do one thing: winning. They started the day in first and second place. To prevent losing their spot to G2 Esports or Evil Geniuses, they have to win each game until they reach each other, and that final game will decide who finishes first.

With the curtains closed on Worlds Groups day six, they have also closed on two more teams. With matching records of one win and five losses, both Evil Geniuses and G2 Esports are heading home. With a record of six wins and one loss, JDG Intel Esports Club claimed first place, and Damwon Kia finished in second with a record of five wins and one loss.

Evil Geniuses had a long road to get to this point. They had to make it through the play-ins to even make it to New York City, all with a teammate that they had been playing with for about three months. They played well under less than optimal circumstances, and fans should not be too upset with how they played. The roster next season could look different, with some members possibly leaving the team because of their contracts, but that is yet to be seen.

The new look G2 Esports did not have a good tournament. Coming off of their last international appearance at MSI, where they surprised people with how good they looked, they fell off a lot during the LEC Summer Spit. Despite losing the LEC Summer Finals, fans and the media called this team the best European team at Worlds this year, and they finished with one win.

They did not live up to the hype they were given and could see more changes next year. They likely won’t replace Caps since he’s been the rock of the team since he joined from Fnatic, but Jankos could be changed in the jungle for a younger European player, or maybe he’ll be replaced by an import player. Like Evil Geniuses, nothing is final until they announce a new roster.

Damwon Kia and JDG Intel Esports Club both played well, only dropping a game to each other on the day. They forced the first tie-breaker in the entire Group stage, leaving JDG Intel Esports Club in first place, followed by Damwon Kia.

With Worlds day six in the history books, it’s Group C’s turn. With no North American team in the group, the hopes for all western fans lie with Rogue. However, they seem to be in a good spot as they are undefeated and at the top of their group. Can they continue their reign, or will they fall?
