To enter Fortress of Meropide in Genshin Impact, you need to follow the permanent progression that controls Fortress of Meropide. The Fortress of Meropide can be entered through Fontaine’s Archon Quest progression, by deliberately being detected by the underwater fortress searchlights, or through the underwater pipe opening near the prison complex.
This guide focuses on the part that usually stops players around Fortress of Meropide in Fontaine: the prerequisite, entrance, puzzle or quest flag that the map itself does not explain clearly. It also covers what to check if the expected Fortress of Meropide interaction is still missing after you reach the right place.

The most reliable way to enter Fortress of Meropide in Genshin Impact is to clear the prerequisites first and then follow the local route in order. Before travelling across Fontaine for Fortress of Meropide, check these conditions so you do not arrive at a locked door, empty cave or inactive mechanism.
- Have Fontaine underwater exploration available.
- Choose whether you are entering for the Archon Quest or for permanent World Quest content such as Unfinished Comedy.
- If using the searchlight method, approach the fortress underwater and let its detection meter complete.
Step-by-step route
- For the story route, continue Chapter IV until the Archon Quest sends you into the Fortress.
- For the optional route, swim to the searchlight area around the underwater fortress and remain detected.
- Accept the resulting transfer into the Fortress when the prompt appears.
- Alternatively, use the broken underwater pipe route west of the prison if you already know the entrance.
- Activate the internal waypoints once you are inside so you do not need the external entry trick again.
Players who want to enter Fortress of Meropide in Genshin Impact should keep the active quest or exploration objective tracked while moving between these steps. Around Fortress of Meropide, vertical map layers, hidden cave entrances and state-based mechanics can matter more than horizontal distance, so check the map layer as well as the marker.
Entering early can prompt the Unfinished Comedy route, and the game warns when quest conflicts would lock overlapping characters or areas.
The Fortress uses several floors, lifts and an Abandoned Production Zone, so internal waypoints matter more than the surface map suggests.
Why it can still look locked or incomplete
If a searchlight is not sending you to the Fortress, make sure you are using the actual prison security lights rather than an ordinary Fontaine spotlight puzzle. Stay in the beam long enough for detection to finish.
If you still cannot enter Fortress of Meropide in Genshin Impact, compare your current objective with the prerequisite list before restarting the game. For Fortress of Meropide, a missing quest flag is not fixed by repeating the final puzzle, and a hidden entrance will not appear just because the destination icon is visible.
Useful details before you leave the area
Credit Coupons, the Rag and Bone Shop and several Scenes from Life in Meropide quests are tied to this area.
Once you enter Fortress of Meropide in Genshin Impact, activate the nearest Teleport Waypoint, domain marker or permanent shortcut before moving on. That turns later material farming, quest cleanup and collectible hunting around Fortress of Meropide into a short return instead of a repeat of the full unlock route.
