Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament takes over the Global Tournament from October 20 to 25, 2026. Supercell’s Shocktober event adds a lightning-themed competitive format and two badge opportunities, including a special leaderboard reward for the top 10,000 players.
There are two similarly named Power Surge events this month. The Global Tournament runs October 20–25; the separate C.H.A.O.S Power Surge mode doesn’t begin until October 26. If you’re playing for a Global Tournament badge, choose the earlier event.

What is the Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament?
The Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament is October’s Global Tournament, running from October 20 to October 25, 2026. The theme revolves around lightning striking during the battle, giving players another competitive ruleset to tackle during Shocktober. It’s not the same event as C.H.A.O.S Power Surge, which runs October 26 to November 2 and uses the separate C.H.A.O.S modifier system.
Supercell has confirmed that the Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament carries an exclusive event badge, with a separate Leaderboard Finisher Badge available to players who place in the top 10,000. Unlike a normal ladder session, your objective is to put together a consistent run against other competitive players while adapting to the special rules.
How to enter the Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament
Open Clash Royale during the October 20–25 event window, then look for Power Surge in the Global Tournament section of the game-mode switcher. Supercell returned Global Tournaments to that selector earlier in the year. Choose the event, inspect its in-game rules, and enter with a deck suited to the available card levels and lightning interactions.
Once the tournament starts, open its panel to check entry eligibility, card levels and how wins are counted. The available requirements are shown in-game. Be sure you’re looking at the Global Tournament rather than C.H.A.O.S Draft, which also appears during Shocktober.
How Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament lightning works
Lightning strikes are the defining feature of the Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament. Supercell’s season announcement doesn’t explain their precise damage, targeting or frequency. Those are details to check in the mode’s live rules panel and your opening matches.
For your first match, watch whether the lightning hits a set location, a group of troops or another target. That tells you whether spreading out units helps or whether you should simply adjust your timing.
Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament deck ideas before the first matches
The Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament is a good time to start with a deck you already understand. The lists below are established archetypes with reliable defensive tools; they are starting points, not a claim that one of them has already become the definitive lightning-mode deck.
| Deck idea | Eight cards | How to play it |
|---|---|---|
| Hog 2.6 Cycle | Hog Rider, Musketeer, Ice Golem, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Cannon, Fireball, The Log | Defend with Cannon and Musketeer, then counterattack with Hog Rider. Cycle cheap cards to return to Hog Rider quickly. |
| Royal Giant Control | Royal Giant, Fisherman, Hunter, Electro Spirit, Skeletons, Tesla, Fireball, The Log | Use Fisherman and Tesla to control threats, Hunter for close-range defence and Royal Giant to pressure a tower after a successful stop. |
| Miner Wall Breakers | Miner, Wall Breakers, Magic Archer, Valkyrie, Bomb Tower, Spear Goblins, Tornado, The Log | Chip at towers with Miner, punish poor responses with Wall Breakers and protect your tower with Valkyrie and Bomb Tower. |
Hog Cycle is suited to players comfortable defending with cheap cards. Royal Giant is an option if you prefer holding a strong position before counterattacking. Miner Wall Breakers relies more on precise placement and sustained chip damage. All three include answers to swarms and air units, but the tournament’s special lightning may change which one you prefer.
Play your first match with familiar placements and watch the lightning carefully. If it regularly removes grouped support troops, spread your defenders across the arena. If it targets something else, adjust only after you’ve seen the effect. Changing your entire deck after one surprising strike is rarely helpful.
Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament rewards and badges
Supercell has explicitly announced an exclusive Power Surge tournament badge. A second Leaderboard Finisher Badge goes to the top 10,000 players. These are distinct rewards: entering the mode or earning a few wins does not automatically place your name among the global top 10,000.
Supercell has confirmed both badge types. The ordinary event badge’s precise milestone and any additional win-by-win rewards are displayed in the live Global Tournament panel, while the special Leaderboard Finisher Badge is reserved for the top 10,000 at the end.
Power Surge versus C.H.A.O.S Power Surge
The names are close, but the calendar separates them. The Global Tournament runs October 20–25. C.H.A.O.S Power Surge begins October 26 and ends November 2. C.H.A.O.S Draft runs October 19–November 2, so its schedule overlaps both without being the same competition.
Supercell’s Shocktober season also includes C.H.A.O.S Blackout, the Electro Giant Evolution and a 20-Win Challenge. Our linked Shocktober calendar has the full event sequence. Players targeting the Global Tournament badge should play the October 20–25 event before that competition ends.
How to improve your tournament run
Use your first few matches to identify the lightning pattern and which units survive. Distinguish ordinary matchups from losses caused by the event rules before changing cards.
In the Clash Royale Power Surge Tournament, keep enough elixir to defend the opposite lane. A lightning effect may interrupt a push, but it won’t replace the need to track your opponent’s counters.
