Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout: Dates, Rules and Best Deck Tips

clash royale shocktober official

Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout runs from October 19 to 26, 2026, during Shocktober. It combines C.H.A.O.S card modifiers with the Blackout ruleset, where the arena periodically goes dark. Supercell has also added 20 cards to this month’s modifier pool, so there are more possible combinations than in earlier seasons.

Normal Clash Royale rewards quick reactions to the troop you can see coming. Blackout makes that much harder. You need to remember which cards have been played, follow visible health bars during dark periods and choose modifiers that actually help your deck rather than simply looking impressive.

Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout event dates

The Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout event begins Monday, October 19 and ends Monday, October 26. Select the rotating C.H.A.O.S format through Clash Royale’s game-mode selector. It is a limited event, not a separate game download or the standard Ranked ladder.

Two other C.H.A.O.S variants are scheduled around it. Draft runs from October 19 through November 2, while Power Surge takes place October 26 through November 2. If you enjoy choosing card modifiers, you’ll still have another format to play once Blackout rotates out.

How does C.H.A.O.S Blackout work?

Blackout periodically plunges the arena into darkness. During the version seen in September’s Royale Shuffle, troop and building models became hidden while their levels and health bars remained visible. You could tell where a fight was happening without clearly identifying every unit. The Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout variant brings that visibility challenge into C.H.A.O.S battles.

C.H.A.O.S itself presents a choice between two modifiers at intervals during a battle. Select one to change a card’s abilities for the remainder of the match. Modifiers have Common, Rare and Epic categories, and some can dramatically change how a troop attacks or supports your push.

The exact darkness interval and modified-card roster can change between seasonal events. Open the current Blackout rules panel and inspect your selectable cards before your first match. The core trick remains the same: you have less visual information at the very moment a modified card could be changing the fight.

Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout: A complete eight-card deck

A starting deck for Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout is Electro Giant, Battle Healer, Phoenix, Electro Dragon, Miner, Cannon, Tornado and Lightning. All eight belong to October’s new C.H.A.O.S card additions. Defend first, then place Electro Giant in front of surviving support troops when the opponent is low on Elixir. This is a deck to test in the October mode, not a claimed top-ranked tournament deck.

Hold Cannon for a ground push and Phoenix or Electro Dragon for air defence. Tornado pulls defenders towards Electro Giant’s damage radius, Lightning handles sturdy defensive units, and Miner creates cheaper pressure in the opposite lane. Use Battle Healer when several troops survive together, not as a lone attacker.

With Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout modifiers, Epic Electro Giant pulls opponents in, Rare Battle Healer speeds up nearby allies, and Rare Phoenix leaves two eggs. Against an Epic Sparky, keep defenders apart because its shots pierce units in a line.

Best Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout deck strategy

Start with a deck that has an obvious win condition, anti-air defence and a way to stop tanks. The Electro Giant example above uses Tornado for control and Lightning as its big spell rather than bringing a cheap damage spell. If small swarms keep overwhelming you, replace Miner with The Log or Arrows and test that version instead. The Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout mode punishes chaotic defence, and playing a familiar rotation is easier when enemy troops disappear from view every so often.

Deck roleWhat to look for
Win conditionA card that can reliably pressure a Crown Tower
Tank counterA troop or building that stops a heavy ground push
Air defenceSomething you can deploy without waiting to identify a flying threat
Small spellA cheap way to clear fragile support units
Cycle optionA low-cost card that helps return to your essential counters

Choose modifiers with your actual deck in mind. Extra range on a support card might protect a tower for longer, whereas a flashy upgrade on a troop you hardly play may never pay off. In Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout, a dependable defensive upgrade can be especially valuable because your next response may happen during darkness.

How to defend when the arena turns dark

Pay attention to the opponent’s first few plays and keep a mental note of which lane they prefer. If they deploy a heavy troop just before the lights disappear, don’t spend all your Elixir in the other lane simply because you can no longer see its model.

Watch health bars and the direction of the push. Place defensive buildings in familiar positions where they can pull a tank towards the middle. The Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout mode rewards preserving your defensive card for the moment it is needed, especially when a modifier makes an enemy troop stronger than its normal version.

If you lose a tower to a surprise attack, consider which piece of information you missed. Did you forget an expensive card had already been played? Did you use your anti-air troop too early? Those habits matter more than memorising a single deck list, because modifier offers change the match.

What’s new in Shocktober C.H.A.O.S?

Supercell confirms that the October C.H.A.O.S pool includes 20 newly added cards. If you’ve played the older modes, check the available modifiers before building around a favourite combination from last season. A card’s modified behaviour can make it an excellent counter or a much more aggressive attacker.

The Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout dates also overlap the end of Spooky Chess and the continuing Shocktober Album Event. These are separate activities. Winning a Blackout match does not automatically finish a Snippet picture or give you the competitive league badge.

Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout: October modifier choices

Supercell’s official creator preview for October’s Season 3 describes changes to modifier selection: both offered upgrades are the same rarity, the fourth selection guarantees an Epic, and Skip lets both modifiers apply at your next choice. Skipping a weak early option can improve your later upgrades, but don’t sacrifice the board while waiting for them. The October feature makes timing important alongside deck construction.

If you play Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout with this deck, your first job is still to recognise an enemy push during the darkness and preserve the defensive card that stops it.

October C.H.A.O.S cards and modifiers to watch

The Clash Royale C.H.A.O.S Blackout card pool includes several additions that can change how you defend during a darkness phase. The same card can behave very differently depending on whether it draws a Common, Rare or Epic modifier. These examples are worth recognising while building your deck.

CardCommon effectRare effectEpic effect
Battle HealerWider healing areaSpeeds up nearby alliesRevives a defeated ally as a clone
Sparky100% more hit pointsFaster repeat charge after firingShots pass through multiple units
Electro Giant30% larger Zap radiusCreates hidden Electro SpiritsPulls nearby enemies inward
Balloon20% faster movementDeploys Skeletroopers when damagedDrops more bombs on a successful hit
Cannon25% longer rangeArea-damage projectilesLeaves a small Cannon Cart when destroyed
PhoenixEgg hatches 75% fasterTwo eggs on defeatCan hatch twice after defeat

Against an Epic Electro Giant, avoid feeding it a tightly grouped swarm: the pull can drag several defenders into the retaliation radius. Sparky’s piercing attacks punish troops lined up in the same lane, while the upgraded Battle Healer rewards keeping your units together long enough for its support effects to matter.

Read the modifier icons and rarity before committing Elixir. A normal Balloon is a straightforward tower threat, but its enhanced variants can require a different defensive answer. Not every modifier is guaranteed to appear in a given battle, so build a deck with ordinary counters first.

Does C.H.A.O.S use your normal card levels?

Supercell established Level 11 for cards in the original C.H.A.O.S mode. That provides an even playing field compared with ordinary progression, where card levels can vary widely. Check the October event panel for the level rules on the current rotation.

Learn the base card roles before picking modifiers. Getting a higher-rarity modifier is not the same as automatically winning, particularly if you don’t have the Elixir or the board position to use it.

How to get the Alternating Currents secret badge

Supercell has revealed a new hidden badge called Alternating Currents in the Shocktober C.H.A.O.S announcement. Its exact unlock condition isn’t included in the official season notes, so a regular win isn’t a confirmed solution. Check the badge description and whether an objective appears during your current match.
