Charged TM Pokémon GO: How to Get and Use Them

Charged TM Pokémon GO items let you replace one of a Pokémon’s current Charged Attacks with another eligible regular Charged Attack from that species’ move pool. The result is random when several moves are available, making Charged TMs common but sometimes frustrating resources for building raid and PvP movesets.

Get Charged TMs from raids

Raid rewards are one of the most familiar sources. Higher-tier raids can award Charged TMs alongside items such as Golden Razz Berries and Rare Candy.

If Charged TM Pokémon GO supplies are low, using your daily free pass on useful raids gives you a chance at TMs while also earning other battle resources.

The reward is not guaranteed from every individual raid, so stockpiling happens over time rather than through one fixed drop.

GO Battle League rewards

GO Battle League reward tracks can include Charged TMs. The exact reward position and seasonal bonuses can change, but regular PvP play is an excellent long-term source.

A Premium Battle Pass can unlock the Premium reward track if you want those rewards, although spending a pass purely for one possible TM is not always efficient.

Charged TM Pokémon GO farming works best when you already enjoy GO Battle League and collect the items naturally.

Research and event rewards

Field Research, Timed Research, Special Research, GO Pass tracks and event quests can all award TMs from time to time.

Because the task pool rotates, there is no permanent research line that should be promised forever.

Check event details before deleting completed tasks. Charged TM Pokémon GO shortages often become much easier during battle-focused events that deliberately add extra TM rewards.

Max Battle rewards

Max Battles can also award Fast or Charged TMs among their item rewards. That gives Dynamax and Gigantamax players another route besides traditional raids.

The required Max Particles vary with the battle, and the items are not guaranteed every time.

Treat Max Battles as another useful source of Charged TM Pokémon GO items rather than a replacement for raids or GO Battle League.

How to use a Charged TM

Open the Item Bag, select Charged TM and choose a Pokémon, or use the item from that Pokémon’s summary menu. If the Pokémon knows two Charged Attacks, select which slot you want to change.

Confirm the warning and the current attack is replaced by another eligible regular move.

Charged TM Pokémon GO use is permanent until another TM changes the move again.

The new move is random

Regular TMs do not let you choose the result. If a Pokémon has a large Charged Attack pool, you can bounce between unwanted moves repeatedly.

The game will not normally reroll into the exact same move you just replaced, but it can cycle among several alternatives.

Before spending a stack of Charged TM Pokémon GO items, check whether the move you want is actually in the regular move pool.

Legacy moves need an Elite TM

Community Day attacks and other event-exclusive moves are often unavailable to regular Charged TMs. If the desired move is legacy, no amount of random rerolling will produce it.

That is when an Elite Charged TM may be required.

Charged TM Pokémon GO planning should always distinguish between ordinary moves and exclusive moves before resources are spent.

When to save TMs

Keep a reserve for Team GO Rocket takeover windows, new raid attackers and PvP move updates. Meta changes can suddenly make an old Pokémon useful, and several members of a team may need moves changed at once.

Do not burn dozens of TMs chasing a marginal side-grade on a Pokémon you rarely use.

What a regular Charged TM cannot do

A normal Charged TM does not unlock a second Charged Attack slot; that requires the separate Stardust and Candy purchase on the Pokémon summary screen. It also cannot normally select legacy, event-exclusive or other Elite-only attacks.

Shadow Pokémon with Frustration are another special case. Frustration can only be removed with a normal Charged TM during designated Team GO Rocket events, so keeping several TMs ready for those windows is useful.

Charged TM Pokémon GO items are common enough to spend when a real moveset improvement exists, but valuable enough that checking the move pool first can save a painful amount of random rerolling.
