Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO? Yes, and the Shiny is not limited to the European museum event. Astronaut Pikachu is Shiny-eligible globally during World Space Week from October 4 to October 10, 2026, when it appears in one-star raids and as the featured encounter from free Timed Research.
The museum collaboration described below is a separate route that adds Location Background eligibility and a longer event window. Pokémon GO has not announced a boosted Shiny rate for the global World Space Week raids or Timed Research, so worldwide availability should not be read as a guaranteed or enhanced Shiny chance.
Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO? Yes. Astronaut Pikachu is officially marked as Shiny-eligible for the Pokémon GO and European Space Agency collaboration, giving collectors a new costumed Shiny to hunt at participating European museums and, during the opening week, ESA locations.
The important part is that Astronaut Pikachu is not a normal worldwide wild spawn. Its announced appearance is tied to location-based one-star raids, with participating museums running the event from October 4, 2026 until April 30, 2027 and ESA facilities joining for a shorter October 4 to October 10 window.
Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

The official answer to Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO is yes. Pokémon GO places the Shiny marker directly on Astronaut Pikachu in the ESA event announcement, so the Shiny form is available from the costume’s debut rather than being held back for a later rerun.
No special Shiny rate has been announced. That means you should not assume Astronaut Pikachu has Community Day-style odds, a boosted raid rate or any other specific probability until the live game or an official update confirms one.
Where can you hunt Shiny Astronaut Pikachu?
For most of the event, Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO is a museum-based raid question. Astronaut Pikachu appears in one-star raids at six locations: Science Museum in London, Cité de l’espace in Toulouse, Deutsches Museum in Nuremberg, Museu de les Ciències in València, Space Expo in Noordwijk and Euro Space Center in Transinne.
Those museums host the collaboration from October 4 through April 30, which gives Shiny hunters a unusually long window for a location-exclusive costume. The raid must be played at the participating location, so this is not a costume you should expect to find in ordinary one-star raids elsewhere.
Can you hunt Shiny Astronaut Pikachu at ESA sites?
Yes, during the shorter opening window. Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO also applies to the ESA locations receiving the event gameplay from October 4 to October 10. These include sites in Paris, Frascati, Darmstadt, near Madrid, Noordwijk, near Redu and Harwell in the UK.
The limitation is the Location Background. ESA sites receive the gameplay but are explicitly excluded from Location Backgrounds. A Shiny Astronaut Pikachu caught there can still be a Shiny costume target, but the special background collection angle belongs to the participating museums.
Can Shiny Astronaut Pikachu have a Location Background?
The announcement separately confirms two things relevant to Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO: Astronaut Pikachu is Shiny-eligible, and eligible museum raid catches can have a special Location Background. It does not explicitly say that a Shiny Astronaut Pikachu can carry the background on the same catch.
Until the event is live, treat the combined Shiny plus Location Background result as unconfirmed rather than guaranteed. Pokémon GO also does not state the Shiny odds or promise a background on every eligible raid catch, so the two collection mechanics should be considered separately for now.
Does Timed Research give Shiny Astronaut Pikachu?
Research should not be treated as a confirmed Astronaut Pikachu route yet when answering Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO. The event includes Timed Research throughout the museum schedule and Field Research from October 4 to October 10, but the announcement only describes event-themed Pokémon encounters rather than naming Astronaut Pikachu as a research reward.
Some research encounters at participating museums may have a Location Background. Until the live task list identifies the actual encounter species, the one-star raid remains the clearly announced Astronaut Pikachu method and therefore the route Shiny hunters can plan around in advance.
Shiny Astronaut Pikachu hunting checklist
- Astronaut Pikachu is confirmed Shiny-eligible.
- Participating museums host one-star raids from October 4, 2026 to April 30, 2027.
- ESA locations join from October 4 to October 10.
- ESA sites do not award Location Backgrounds.
- No boosted Shiny rate has been announced.
- The museum raid is the confirmed method to plan around before the event starts.
The answer to Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO is therefore a firm yes, but the hunt is geographically restricted. For collectors who can reach a participating museum, the long event window provides plenty of time to raid without trying to cram every attempt into a single weekend.
You can check the Shiny marker and participating locations on the official Pokémon GO ESA event page. If you are asking Can Astronaut Pikachu Be Shiny in Pokémon GO because you want the Shiny plus Location Background combination, use one of the six museums rather than an ESA facility.
