MHA Chapter 349 spoilers: chapter summary and new panels!

Leaks are coming in a little later than usual tonight, but info and panels are finally out due to hard work from translators like Rukasu. The last chapter ended with Deku leaving the battle with Toga to head towards Shigaraki and the others, and MHA 349 picks up right after this departure. MHA 349 starts off shortly after the last chapter with Deku zooming across the ocean using a combination of Float, Fa Jin, and his classic finger flicks to propel himself. While he would like to move faster, it is hardly an option. The ghost of the second user appears before him, however, and tells Deku to make sure he keeps his cool as he can’t afford to spend himself before he makes it to the battle.

He then asks Deku if he plans to use his Quirk before warning him that it is noticeably harder to use after merging with One for All and that the boy may be entirely unable to control it. With a word of advice to trust in his friends from the second user, Deku continues.

Back to the scene with the ladies, Tsuyu comments on needing to basically force Deku out of there as the boy wouldn’t be able to leave Toga’s string of questioning. The villain returns to the scene, pledging to become as she wishes and live according to her sense, fully taking the plunge into her delusions. As she does this, she touches one of her blood compartments which contains Twice’s blood.

As Toga swears off heroes once again, she readies an attack while Ochako takes a fighting stance of her own, stating that she will handle the situation as she feels is right.

With a change to yet another battle, the scene moves to that of Kamino where a high-end Noumu is keeping many of the heroes at bay while Dabi hangs from All Might’s iconic statue, taunting them and reveling in the flames and chaos. Iida tries to help out where he can, though his engines risk overheating if he nears Dabi. A spiral of flames rushes towards Dabi who propels himself with flames in tow.

The spiral is led by Shoto himself alongside three of Endeavor’s assistants in Kidou, Onima, and Burnin. Dabi continues to taunt the heroes about Endeavor sending them instead of himself. The three assure Shoto of their trust for him and his father as the young hero thanks them all. Dabi calls his brother another pawn before a telling retort that Shoto couldn’t call himself a hero if he ignored his brother as he is now.

The conversation turns to Dabi explaining the cause of this entire war. He cites it as merely an explosion of violence due to personal ideology which built up over time. He wants to completely burn this society to the ground as he and his Leaguemates are proof of the strains of their society. Toga, Shigaraki, and Spinner are all shown as prominent facets of society which led them astray, Spinner, in particular, looking rather bulked up whilst drooling.

Shoto can only ask why Dabi never returned home if he survived the tragedy of his youth and it seems Dabi is receptive. He plans to tell his brother everything that led him to become Dabi instead of Touya Todoroki

With that, MHA 349 comes to an end. I like the juxtaposition they’re doing, popping between the three main battlefields back and forth. It really shows the scale of what’s happening and allows for a lot of arcs to finish up or set up to that finish. That said, it seems we may well be in for a backstory chapter or two with Dabi’s lore dump. Seems we will have to wait two weeks to find out as no chapter will be released next week. Even so, I’ll be waiting excitedly the whole time!
