MHA 348 Spoilers: Full Chapter Summary and New Panels

shounen jump mha 348

Despite the general trend of My Hero Academia chapters leaking with English summaries on late Wednesday-early Thursday in the States, it seems we got MHA 348 a full day early. Thanks as always to Rukasu and other translators for the information!

Starting off MHA 348, we see Deku’s reaction to Toga’s love confession from the prior chapter. As a generally geeky kid in his past and a busy hero now, he never noticed Toga’s feelings and is left nervously repeating the term boyfriend. Continuing her confession, Toga admits that she had love at first sight due to Deku’s blood-soaked appearance looking like her first love. Put off by her sense of love, Deku explains his vision of lovers as those going to parks, holding hands, and sharing good food while the girl expresses her desire to truly become that which she loves.

Following up on Ochako and Toga’s confrontation in the war, Toga asks Deku the same question about what they intend to do to her. The heroes and Noumu continue to fight as Deku tells Toga he isn’t sure what they plan, but that he can somewhat understand her mindset to want to be like someone they admire. He states the difference is he doesn’t want to hurt his idols. As if disillusioned in some way, Toga sets upon a controlled smile, thinking to all those who have scolded her in her life, coming to the conclusion that society only views heroes and those they protect as real people.

With that said, Toga dons her mask and attempts a flurry of strikes on Deku, though is unsuccessful. Ochako manages to grapple the girl and roll away, continuing her end of their past talk as well before Toga completely disregards Ochako. The young villain pledges that she will stand against the world as it does with her, attacking Ochako with her needles that seem equipped with a propulsion system for extra range. This ends up being a feint as the girl attacks herself, lamenting that she wishes Ochako understood her in the end.

Tsuyu arrives with a jump kick to knock Toga away as Deku’s Black Whip already catches the girl mid-knockback. The three heroes make sure they’re okay and confirm their plan before Tsuyu tells Deku to let them handle Toga and to head where he is most needed: in the battle against Shigaraki. Ochako assures Deku that things will be alright before having to yell at him to get going shortly afterward, as Toga continues to lament her situation and unreturned feelings. This snaps the boy out of his hesitation as he heads out, ending the chapter.

And with that, MHA 348 comes to an end. I’m sure that we will see the actual follow-up to Ochako and Tsuyu’s rematch with Toga sooner rather than later, or at worst, elaborated on in the anime. I’m glad they got through with the character drama that needed to be dealt with before the end of the series without spending a ton of time when so much is already on the line and a ton of fights seem to be on the horizon as is. Let’s see just how the next chapter turns out!
