Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles were overhauled on 13 October 2026. ArenaNet made Seasons 1 and 2 free for level 80 characters, included the later Living World chapters with their expansions and introduced new collections for players who want to catch up on Tyria’s story.

Existing owners haven’t been forgotten. If you already have the qualifying expansions, missing episodes are unlocked automatically. Some recent buyers are also due gem refunds, and the Starter Pack has gained extra items. Here’s what each bundle contains and which of those changes applies to your account.

Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles: Which seasons come with which expansions?

The season breakdown is straightforward once you separate the base game from the paid expansions. Living World Seasons 1 and 2 are free for anyone with a level 80 character, including free-to-play accounts. Seasons 3 and 4 now come with the Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire bundle. Season 5, The Icebrood Saga, comes with End of Dragons.

Season What gives you access?
Living World Season 1 Base game, level 80
Living World Season 2 Base game, level 80
Living World Season 3 Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire bundle
Living World Season 4 Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire bundle
Living World Season 5: The Icebrood Saga End of Dragons

There are no longer separate Living World episode purchases. If an older guide sends you to the Gem Store to buy a missing chapter, that advice predates these changes. The Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles now cover those episodes through the base game or the appropriate expansion ownership.

Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles: Elder Dragon vs Astral Ward vs Complete

ArenaNet has reorganised the three main collections. The Elder Dragon Saga gives you the three earlier expansions and the later Living World seasons. Astral Ward Saga is for the three newer expansions. The Complete Collection combines both groups.

Collection Expansions and paid Living World content
Elder Dragon Saga Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons, Seasons 3, 4 and 5
Astral Ward Saga Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds, Visions of Eternity
Complete Collection All six expansions and Seasons 3, 4 and 5

The free Seasons 1 and 2 are part of the base game whichever collection you choose. Buying Astral Ward Saga alone doesn’t also grant the older Elder Dragon Saga content, so it’s worth checking which expansions your account already owns.

Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles: What existing owners receive

Already own Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire? ArenaNet says your missing Season 3 and Season 4 episodes are now unlocked automatically. Owners of End of Dragons receive any missing Icebrood Saga episodes. You don’t need to purchase the chapters you previously missed.

There is one limitation when buying bundles containing something you already own: you don’t receive duplicate Character Slots or Shared Inventory Slots from those expansions. ArenaNet’s October patch notes also explain that Level-80 Boosts and Shared Inventory Slots are provided for newly added expansions, not copies you already have.

In other words, the Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles simplify your story entitlements, but rebuying an overlapping expansion isn’t a shortcut to extra account slots. Check your existing purchases before paying for a larger collection.

Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles: Gem refund eligibility

ArenaNet announced automatic gem refunds for Living World content purchased after 12 September 2026. Eligible customers receive the gem value of the Living World content, not a refund for the entire expansion. That includes partial gem credits for qualifying purchases of the former Elder Dragon Saga Complete Collection.

If your refund hasn’t arrived, ArenaNet asked eligible players to contact support@arena.net after 15 October 2026. That date has passed. Have your purchase details ready when you contact support so the team can investigate the missing gems. The Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles announcement doesn’t offer a general refund for purchases outside the stated window.

What is included in the updated Starter Pack?

ArenaNet added a Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic, five Teleport to Friend consumables and two Black Lion Chest Keys to the Starter Pack. If you bought it before the update, those extra items were meant to arrive automatically by in-game mail.

The support follow-up date is also 15 October for Starter Pack items. If you’re an existing purchaser and the mail never arrived, contact ArenaNet Support rather than buying a second Starter Pack. This is separate from the Living World gem refund.

Do Steam and the Guild Wars 2 store charge the same?

Prices depend on the storefront and your account. ArenaNet lists the web store, in-game store, Steam and Epic Games Store among its purchase options. Steam offers dynamic bundle pricing, adjusting a bundle price for qualifying content already owned through Steam. The discount you see there isn’t a guaranteed price for another platform.

For the Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles, check which expansions you own and the price shown at checkout. The official announcement does not give one universal UK total for every bundle and platform, so there’s no benefit to relying on an old screenshot of a sale price.

Which Guild Wars 2 expansion bundle should you choose?

If you’ve never bought an expansion, start by playing the free story. Our Living World Season 2 guide shows you how to begin. Elder Dragon Saga is the route into the older paid story, Astral Ward Saga covers the newer adventures, and Complete Collection is the option for all six expansions.

A level 80 character can check unlocked story chapters through the Hero panel’s Story Journal. If an episode that should be included remains locked, confirm which expansion your account owns and contact ArenaNet Support if needed.

The updated Guild Wars 2 Living World expansion bundles are most useful for returning players who previously had to buy chapters separately. Check your account entitlements first; you may already have the Living World stories you wanted without spending any more gems.
