The N’tormat Curio is the strange book at the heart of Risk of Rain 2’s Hallowed Concepts rituals. You can receive it from a Wake event, a Shrine of Compulsion, an N’kuhana Trial or as a nearby pickup after collecting a Page.

Getting the book is the easy part; knowing what to do with its seven Pages matters more. Each opens a different ritual, and gathering them can make the next Teleporter encounter nastier. Here’s how the Curio works without wasting your run.

N’tormat Curio: What the N’tormat actually is

The N’tormat is a Curio, also described as a Key Item, from the Hallowed Concepts expansion. It doesn’t use your normal Equipment slot, so getting one doesn’t require sacrificing your current equipment. It has its own key-item slot. You can only carry one key item at a time, although the N’tormat is currently the only one in that category. When you acquire one of its Pages, you unlock a ritual inside the book. There are seven Pages and therefore seven rituals to discover. The N’tormat Curio belongs in its own Key Item slot, so you shouldn’t need to drop your Royal Capacitor or other Equipment to hold it.

Method 1: Open an Ancient Sepulcher during The Wake

Find an Ancient Sepulcher on a regular stage and interact with it to start The Wake. Every living player immediately receives one Page, and anyone who doesn’t already have the N’tormat gets the Curio too. The event then asks you to protect three Soul Conduits for 105 seconds. You should stay and finish the defence for the event’s subsequent rewards, but the initial N’tormat and Page are awarded when the event begins. Wake events aren’t guaranteed on every stage, so don’t assume you’re missing an item if the Sepulcher isn’t there. Opening a Sepulcher gives the N’tormat Curio to any player who doesn’t already have it, as well as giving living players a Page.

Method 2: Complete a Shrine of Compulsion challenge

A Shrine of Compulsion gives the team a task to complete. Once you finish that challenge, every player receives a Page, and anyone lacking the N’tormat is given the Curio. This method works for your whole team, not just the person who activated the shrine. If you’re playing co-op, gather the team around the challenge and make sure everyone stays alive to benefit rather than rushing off to trigger an unrelated event. Shrine of Compulsion challenges offer another way to pick up the N’tormat Curio while working through an ordinary run.

N’tormat Curio: Method 3: Finish an N’kuhana Trial

You can also obtain the N’tormat by finishing a trial accessed through a Ritual Gong. The trial takes away your normal items temporarily, challenges you against a shared countdown called the Reckoning, and returns your inventory when you succeed. At the reward chest, every player gets a random Page; a N’tormat is given to players who don’t have one. There’s also a choice of one permanent item from Ethereal items collected in the trial. Treat this as a harder but rewarding option, not a guaranteed quick pickup. If you get the N’tormat Curio after a Trial, inspect the reward chest and your Page collection before rushing through the exit.

Can it spawn automatically?

Yes. Acquiring any Page without already holding the N’tormat can cause the Curio itself to appear as a pickup nearby. The wiki documents a spawn distance of about 8 to 100 metres, usually in front of the player, and no more than once for an individual player per stage. That matters if you see a Page reward but think the book hasn’t appeared: look around the ground rather than assuming the Page somehow replaced the item. The automatic pickup even works with the otherwise useless Shredded Page. Sometimes the N’tormat Curio appears on the ground after a Page pickup. The spawned book isn’t necessarily directly under your feet.

How Pages and ritual charges work

Switch between collected Pages using the Change Key Item control and cast the selected ability using Activate Key Item. Casting consumes a charge for the current stage rather than deleting your Page permanently. The usual charges regenerate when the next stage begins, although they don’t regenerate inside N’kuhana Trials. Extra copies of the same Page grant extra casts per stage. For instance, holding multiple Clarity Pages lets you use its cooldown-resetting effect more than once. Once you’ve picked up the N’tormat Curio, learn its separate activation and Page-switching controls instead of trying the Equipment button.

Why collecting Pages changes the next Teleporter

A Page isn’t a free reward with no consequences. Gaining one curses the next Teleporter event, adding an additional challenge to your run. That makes timing important: collect Pages when you’re prepared for the next fight, especially on builds that struggle with crowded boss encounters. Keeping your Curio doesn’t force you to cast a ritual immediately, and Pages regenerate between stages, so there’s no reason to spend every ability as soon as you acquire it. The downside of carrying the N’tormat Curio is tied to Page collection, which can add hazards to the next Teleporter encounter.

What to do after getting the N’tormat

Try out a low-risk ritual first and check the book’s selection controls. Clarity refreshes skills and equipment while reducing their cooldowns for ten seconds. Warp Gate gives you a powerful long-distance teleport. Reincarnation is much more dangerous: it creates a sacrificial circle that can kill players standing within it, but specific marked sacrifice zones can redirect the party to hidden places. Don’t casually activate that ritual to see what happens. Once you’ve gathered enough Pages, search near a Teleporter for the Shrine of Descent route towards Soulbound Threshold. Keep the N’tormat Curio equipped while deciding which ritual to try, but avoid casting Reincarnation casually because it can kill your survivor.

If the N’tormat seems missing

Check that Hallowed Concepts was enabled when the run started and that the run rules allow Key Items. Remember the Curio has a dedicated slot rather than the Equipment slot. If you received a Page through an automatic event, look nearby for a pickup rather than searching your Equipment wheel. In co-op, each player needs their own N’tormat; one player receiving one isn’t equivalent to equipping it on everybody’s character.

Once you’ve secured the N’tormat Curio, pay as much attention to what each Page does to the next fight as to its active ritual.
