If you’re looking for how to complete Wake events in Risk of Rain 2, the important part is defending three Soul Conduits for 105 seconds. The event begins at an Ancient Sepulcher and rewards you with a Page of the N’tormat, making it a useful route into the expansion’s larger ritual system.

You’ll sometimes find the Sepulcher while exploring an ordinary stage, but you can’t count on it appearing in every run. Here’s how spawning works, what to do after activating it and how to protect the rewards.

What starts a Wake event?

The Wake is a stage event introduced in Hallowed Concepts. Look for an Ancient Sepulcher during a normal stage and interact with it. This isn’t a separate menu mode or a Teleporter boss: it is a battlefield defence that begins on the current stage. Activating the Sepulcher gives each living player a Page of the N’tormat, and anyone without the Curio receives the N’tormat itself. That’s why this event is especially useful early in an expansion run.

Where Wake events can spawn

The Wake is chosen as a stage loads. On eligible stages, its reported chance is 15% on the first stage and 20% on subsequent stages; it isn’t guaranteed on every run. It appears in standard and Eclipse play, requires a normal Teleporter and suitable placement, and isn’t known to have a valid position on Conduit Canyon. If you cannot find an Ancient Sepulcher, that doesn’t automatically mean something is bugged. You may simply be on a stage without an active Wake.

Step 1: Prepare for a stationary defence

Before opening the Sepulcher, clear nearby enemies and check your mobility, healing and area damage. A Wake lasts 105 seconds, and the goal isn’t to eliminate one special boss as fast as possible. You need to protect three Soul Conduits throughout a wave-based attack. Items and abilities that control a space are often more useful than damage that only hits a single enemy once. In co-op, agree on which conduit each person is watching so monsters don’t slip through an unguarded side.

Step 2: Activate the Ancient Sepulcher

Interact with the Sepulcher only after you’re ready. The event grants its initial Curio and Page rewards before the defence begins, then the hostile waves move towards the three Soul Conduits. Watch the event area and the conduits rather than retreating to the Teleporter. A Page is not permission to abandon the defence: additional rewards depend on how well you hold the position until the timer ends.

Step 3: Keep as many Soul Conduits alive as possible

Make the three Soul Conduits your priority. Take out enemies that are damaging an objective even if there’s a more tempting target farther away. Avoid chasing a stray monster outside your ability to return. If you’re alone, rotate between conduits according to the pressure they’re under; in a group, split sight lines while still helping anyone who’s being overwhelmed. Every surviving conduit matters because the event’s ending reward scales with how many remain.

Step 4: Survive all 105 seconds

The objective ends after 105 seconds. You don’t need to race to the exit or trigger a second Teleporter to finish it. Keep defending until the game resolves the wave event and awards the appropriate outcome. Once it concludes, check the N’tormat and Page count before deciding whether to search for a Shrine of Descent or continue gathering resources. This is one of the easiest early systems to confuse with the expansion’s separate N’kuhana Trials.

Why the N’tormat reward matters

The N’tormat Curio lets you unlock rituals through Pages collected across relevant DLC activities. A Wake is an accessible route to both the Curio and your next Page, so even an imperfect defence can contribute to a longer unlock plan. A Shrine of Descent can become available when the team holds sufficient Pages and the run remains eligible; the shrine then starts a modified Teleporter event leading towards Soulbound Threshold, where you can unlock Acolyte.

Wake event not spawning or not completing?

Make sure the DLC was enabled at the beginning of the run, then check whether the stage is eligible and has an Ancient Sepulcher at all. You can’t force every stage to spawn one. If you have started the event but haven’t received the final reward, verify that the 105-second defence has actually finished; rewards differ according to surviving conduits. If you’re trying to earn N’tormat Pages specifically, remember that activating a Wake grants a Page to living players immediately, even before its defence outcome is determined.

The best approach for first-timers

Bring an area-control build, open the Ancient Sepulcher after clearing the immediate surroundings and spend the defence staying close to the objectives. With multiple players, cover the three conduits rather than clustering around a single one. Afterwards, use the new Curio and Page toward your longer Hallowed Concepts run. The Wake is a stepping stone to the expansion’s rituals, not a reason to throw away a strong run hunting endlessly for another event.
