Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters are back for Fortnitemares 2026, but the October 6 hotfix makes them more interesting than the returning-weapon label suggests. Epic has improved their accuracy while aiming down sights, which rewards the exact playstyle these paired crossbows needed: slow the shot down, take a clean angle and make both bolts count.
They are still not a weapon you should treat like an SMG with a Halloween skin. Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters have a deliberate rhythm, use Medium Bullets and leave you exposed if you empty the magazine carelessly. The accuracy buff helps, but the player still has to respect range, reload timing and positioning.
Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters stats
Current live weapon data for Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters spans Common through Legendary rarity, with body damage rising from 32 to 40 and headshot damage from 56 to 70. The magazine holds 14 shots and the fire rate is around 3.9, with Legendary reaching roughly 156 DPS.

Those numbers explain why the weapon can feel excellent when you are landing shots and awful when you panic. It has enough damage to punish clean tracking, but every miss eats into a magazine that takes long enough to reload for an opponent to notice.
October 6 ADS accuracy buff
The October 6 hotfix improves ADS accuracy for Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters. Epic has not described this as a damage buff, so do not expect the same hit to suddenly remove more health. The gain is consistency when you aim before firing.
That matters most at medium range. Before the hotfix, the temptation was to line up a good shot only for the paired weapon to feel looser than the sight picture suggested. Better ADS accuracy makes deliberate shots more trustworthy without turning the crossbows into a long-range precision rifle.
How to get Dual Fiend Hunters now
Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters returned as part of the Fortnitemares loot picture. Epic also used them as the guaranteed starting weapon during the October 3 Bounty Hunter Sprite Power Hours, but those scheduled windows are no longer the normal acquisition route on October 6.
Do not leave an expired Power Hour paragraph at the top of this guide and tell players to wait for a session that has already happened. The useful current advice is to treat the crossbows as a live seasonal weapon and check the active loot sources in your match.
What ammo do they use?
Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters use Medium Bullets. That is easy to overlook because crossbows often suggest a special ammo type, but this version pulls from a resource you may also want for another weapon in the same loadout.
If you are carrying an Assault Rifle as well, watch your Medium Bullet count. The crossbows can burn through ammunition quickly when you start taking speculative shots at every moving target.
Best range after the accuracy buff
The best place for Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters is short to medium range where ADS accuracy can help without forcing the bolts into awkward long-distance duels. Use elevation, peek from cover and aim before firing whenever you have the time.
At point-blank range, a strong shotgun is usually easier to trust. At extreme range, a dedicated precision weapon gives you better control. The crossbows shine in the space between those two jobs.
Why they are good against Fiends
Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters keep their Fortnitemares identity through strong damage against Fiend enemies. That makes them naturally useful in seasonal PvE situations where the weapon can exploit its intended target type.
Do not assume that bonus applies identically to every human opponent. Against players, judge the weapon by its normal damage, headshot potential and your ability to land the paired shots.
How to handle the reload
The reload is the easiest way to get punished while using Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters. Do not stand on a roof edge reloading because the first volley felt good. Break line of sight, reload behind hard cover and re-peek only when the magazine is ready.
If you have a secondary close-range weapon, swap rather than forcing a reload in somebody’s face. The crossbows are much better when you control the tempo instead of letting the enemy choose the moment you are helpless.
Best loadout pairing
Pair Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters with a close-range finisher and something that does not fight for the exact same role. A shotgun gives you a clean emergency answer, while mobility or healing keeps the loadout from becoming three different ways to shoot at medium range.
Be cautious about stacking too many Medium Bullet weapons. An individually strong loadout can still collapse if every slot is drinking from the same ammunition pool.
Are Dual Fiend Hunters good after October 6?
Yes. The ADS change makes Fortnite Dual Fiend Hunters better for players who already liked their deliberate firing style. It does not erase the reload weakness or make hip-fire panic shots suddenly perfect, which is a good thing.
Aim, use height when you can, and choose your shots. The October 6 buff rewards good habits rather than replacing them.
