Delete Special Research Pokémon GO: Can You Remove It?

You cannot delete Special Research Pokémon GO from your Research screen. Special Research is designed to remain on your account until you complete it, and unlike ordinary Field Research it does not have a trash button. If an old storyline is sitting unfinished, there is no normal in-game option to remove it.

Can you delete Special Research Pokémon GO?

There is currently no standard way to delete Special Research Pokémon GO. Pokémon GO allows Field Research tasks to be discarded, but Special Research follows different rules. Once a Special Research story has been added to your account, its pages and tasks stay available so you can return to them later.

That means an unfinished quest from months or even years ago is not broken simply because it is still visible. You do not need to delete Special Research Pokémon GO before receiving most newer research. Multiple Special Research stories can sit in the Research menu at the same time.

Why Special Research cannot be trashed

The reason you cannot delete Special Research Pokémon GO is that these stories often contain one-time encounters, items or progression that cannot simply be reacquired by spinning another PokéStop. Field Research is disposable because a new task can be collected again; Special Research is attached to your account and its rewards.

Pokémon GO also uses Special Research to preserve long-term progress. Some steps deliberately take time, such as earning Buddy hearts, defeating Team GO Rocket members or catching specific Pokémon. Being unable to delete Special Research Pokémon GO means that progress is still there when the required Pokémon or event returns.

What if the Special Research is impossible right now?

If you want to delete Special Research Pokémon GO because one task currently looks impossible, leaving it alone is usually the answer. Species rotate back into events, raids and research, while Rocket lineups and other mechanics change over time. The task does not normally expire just because the event that originally introduced it has ended.

The important exception is Timed Research. Timed Research has an expiry date and disappears when its deadline passes. That is separate from the question of whether you can delete Special Research Pokémon GO: Special Research is normally permanent, while Timed Research is specifically designed to end.

Can support remove Special Research?

There is no general support tool advertised for players who simply want to delete Special Research Pokémon GO because they dislike seeing an unfinished story. Support may investigate a genuine account or progression bug, but that is different from manually clearing ordinary research from the list.

If a Special Research task is not registering progress correctly, restart the app, check that the task wording is being followed exactly and make sure the required feature is available. If the task is genuinely stuck after normal troubleshooting, use the in-game Help route rather than trying to remove the research itself.

How to keep a crowded Research screen manageable

Because you cannot delete Special Research Pokémon GO, the practical solution is to finish easy pages when convenient and ignore the awkward ones until their requirements line up with normal play. There is no penalty for having several unfinished Special Research stories open at once.

It can feel untidy, especially on an older account, but there is no need to delete Special Research Pokémon GO to make room for Field Research or Research Breakthrough stamps. Those systems are tracked separately, so an old Special Research story does not consume one of your ordinary Field Research task slots.

If your real problem is clutter rather than a blocked task, it helps to treat old storylines as a background to-do list. Finish stages that overlap with what you already plan to do and leave awkward requirements alone until an event makes them easier. This avoids wasting Premium items or going out of your way for an old objective. It also means you can keep playing current events normally without worrying that an unfinished Professor Willow story is taking up a hidden research slot. The menu may look busy, but the account can continue collecting newer storylines alongside the older ones.
