Miss a Day of Field Research Pokémon GO: What Happens?

If you miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO, your existing Research Breakthrough stamps do not reset. You simply do not earn a stamp for that day. The next time you complete and claim an eligible Field Research task, your stamp row continues from where you left it until you eventually reach seven.

What happens when you miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO?

Nothing is taken away when you miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO. If you already have five stamps, you still have five stamps after a day away from the game. Field Research stamps are cumulative toward the next Research Breakthrough; they are not a consecutive-day streak.

This is why it is safe to miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO if you are busy, ill, travelling or simply do not feel like playing. The only thing you lose is the chance to make progress that day. Your normal unexpired Field Research tasks can remain in your Research screen until you complete or discard them.

Field Research stamps are not the same as streaks

Players sometimes worry about what happens when they miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO because Pokémon GO also has seven-day catch and PokéStop streaks. Those streaks do require consecutive local days. Research Breakthrough stamps do not, so missing Tuesday does not send your stamp row back to zero.

Can you earn more than one stamp the next day?

You cannot catch up with two stamps after you miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO. Pokémon GO allows a maximum of one Research stamp per day. Complete as many Field Research tasks as you like for their rewards, but only the first eligible claimed task of that day advances the stamp row.

That means if you miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO, the earliest possible Research Breakthrough date moves back by one day. There is no penalty beyond that delay and there is no special recovery task you need to complete.

What happens to your Field Research tasks overnight?

If you miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO but already have tasks saved, ordinary Field Research does not automatically vanish at midnight just because you did not finish it. You can continue working on it later or discard it manually if you want a different task. Event-specific availability can change, but a collected standard task can normally stay in your list.

Bonus Field Research is a little different because the game can grant certain bonus tasks automatically during supported periods, and a fourth slot can be used for a bonus task. That slot behavior does not change the one-stamp-per-day rule.

What about Special Research and Timed Research?

The answer changes if by “research” you mean Timed Research rather than Field Research. You can miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO without losing stamps, but Timed Research has a deadline. If its timer expires before you finish and claim rewards, those tasks can disappear. Special Research normally stays until completed.

So if you miss a day of Field Research Pokémon GO, check whether any separate Timed Research is close to expiring, but do not panic about the stamp row. Your Research Breakthrough progress is designed to wait for you, even when your seven stamps take longer than seven calendar days.

If you are trying to reach a Breakthrough on a particular day, count the stamps you already have rather than assuming the calendar will line up automatically. One missed day shifts the earliest claim date because there is no catch-up stamp. It can be worth keeping an easy task, such as a simple catch or throw objective, ready for a busy day so you can claim it quickly. Just remember that completing an objective and claiming its reward are separate actions: the stamp is tied to claiming eligible Field Research, not merely watching the progress bar reach completion.
