Genshin Impact: HoYoverse to replace Tighnari’s English in-game voice lines, removes Elliot Gindi from the cast

Following the controversy revolving around Elliot Gindi, HoYoverse has recently decided to remove the voice actor from the cast of Genshin Impact.

Gindi, who voiced the 5-star Dendro character Tighnari in English, had been accused of sexual harassment and other inappropriate behaviors which he later admitted and apologized for.

In a tweet, the official account of Genshin Impact announced that Gindi will no longer be voicing the Dendro character in the future due to “a breach of contract.” The decision was made after “communications with the voice recording agency.”

After communications with the voice recording agency, we hereby confirm that Elliot Gindi, the English voice actor for Tighnari will no longer be voicing the character in subsequent versions due to a breach of contract.

HoYoverse plans to re-record existing Tighnari voice lines

The official Twitter account of Genshin Impact also announced HoYoverse’s plans of casting another voice actor and re-recording Tighnari’s existing voice lines in English. While this may take some time, the Genshin Impact team stated that the lines voiced by Gindi will gradually be replaced.

At present, we are communicating with the voice recording agency regarding matters of casting and re-recording. We will gradually replace Tighnari's existing in-game voice lines, and issue these updates in the corresponding announcements. Thank you for your support, Travelers!

Prior to these announcements, it can be recalled that Twitter user FretCore, who introduced themselves as one of Elliot Gindi’s main twitch and discord moderators, claimed that the voice actor had “sexual relations with teen fans” and was an “emotional abuser and blackmailer who threatens s**cide to get his way.”

Gindi later admitted to the alleged sexual acts and suicidal threats in an official statement and public apology. However, he denied that he knowingly committed these acts with a minor, saying: “What is not true: That I knowingly did anything with anyone underage.”

Apart from voicing the English version of Tighnari in Genshin Impact, Elliot Gindi also voiced Billy from Pokémon Journeys: The Series.

Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game developed by miHoyo, also known as HoYoverse. The game is available for PC, PS4, PS5, iOS, and Android, while a release on Nintendo Switch is currently in the works.
