Akshan is yet to step foot on the competitive scene of League of Legends. Still, Riot Games revealed that Akshan will be disabled for Worlds 2021.

As multiple summer splits are ending around the world, league fans are getting excited to hopefully see their favourite teams compete for the prestigious Summoner’s Cup.

However, the game will be ever so slightly different to what regular gamers are used to seeing on the rift.

The latest in Riot Games arsenal of champions is Akshan, the rogue sentinel. The new champion is all about interesting new mechanics such as a grappling hook or reviving teammates. However, Maximilian Peter Schmidt, European head of Esports, confirmed that the champion would not be making his appearance on the professional scene just yet.

Schmidt originally told us that the champion would only be disabled for the 2021 LEC Summer Split playoffs despite being available for Worlds 2021. The decision came down to a vote amongst LEC teams and the majority decided to leave Akshan out of the party!

Later Riot Games revealed that Akshan is disabled for Worlds 2021. Maximilian Peter Schmidt seemed to correct his original tweet by mentioning the new marksman assassin would be unavailable for the international tournament.

Schmidt was asked how this decision came about, and he promptly replied that the Akshan lacked pro play exposure and would be harder to balance for the Gameplay team.

Riot Games also have a rule that disables new champions in competitive matches to ensure the game remains balanced during the regular season even if Akshan has had a rocky start to regular gameplay. Adding to the fact that Akshan is disabled for Worlds 2021.

Indeed, the rogue sentinel has already received two hotfixes after his release on July 22nd. This means the champion still requires work before being a force to be reckoned with in a solo queue. Although, as we know professionals see inconceivable things with new champions that regular players are yet to figure out and could use them to gain an unfair advantage.

We believe that Riot Games revealing that Akshan is disabled for Worlds 2021 is the right decision, at least everybody is on the same page before the tournament starts.
