Valheim Jotun Invasion: How to Start and Complete It

Valheim Jotun Invasion is a Deep North progression event triggered after you break the Malicious Ice at the bottom of a Mörkhalla dungeon. The game then marks an invasion elsewhere on your world map, sending you out of the dungeon to stop the Jotun and claim Malicious Blood.

Valheim Jotun Invasion matters because the final Deep North route needs three Malicious Blood. One event gives one reward, so finishing the endgame requires repeating the Mörkhalla and invasion sequence several times.

How to start a Valheim Jotun Invasion

Craft an Intricate Key, enter Mörkhalla and fight your way to the bottom.

Destroy the Malicious Ice structure in the deepest section. The on-screen Jotun Advance message confirms that the invasion sequence has started.

Where does the invasion appear?

Open the world map after triggering the event. A red marked area identifies where the Jotun have advanced.

The event is not simply another room inside Mörkhalla. You have to leave the dungeon and travel to the marked region to continue Valheim Jotun Invasion progression.

What enemies attack?

Expect Jotun forces including Krigen and Hexen. Krigen pressure you with physical combat while Hexen add ranged or magical danger.

Do not let the event turn into one giant uncontrolled pull. Use terrain, clear enemies deliberately and keep enough stamina for dodging instead of sprinting straight to the centre.

What is the objective?

Your main objective is the large Malicious Ice formation at the centre of the invasion.

You still need to deal with enough enemies to reach it safely. Destroying the central object is the key completion step for Valheim Jotun Invasion rather than simply waiting out a timer.

What reward do you get?

Completing the event and destroying the Malicious Ice gives Malicious Blood.

This is the material required at the Aesir Passage. You need three total, so one successful Valheim Jotun Invasion only completes a third of that requirement.

How to prepare before triggering the invasion

Do not break the Mörkhalla Malicious Ice when your food, armour durability and healing supplies are already exhausted.

The invasion happens after the dungeon, so recover first if necessary. Bring portal materials or maintain a wider portal network because the event can send you away from your Deep North staging area.

Can you trigger several invasions?

The progression loop is designed to be repeated through multiple Mörkhalla clears. Each new dungeon needs another Intricate Key, and each triggered invasion provides another opportunity to earn Malicious Blood.

Keep track of which Mörkhalla structures you have already opened so you do not waste time returning to completed towers.

Best strategy for completing the event

Arrive with full food buffs, pull smaller groups away from the centre and use your strongest late-game weapons. Once enemy pressure is manageable, focus the Malicious Ice.

Valheim Jotun Invasion is easier when treated as a short combat objective rather than an endless survival event. Control the Jotun, break the target, collect the Malicious Blood and prepare for the next Mörkhalla run.

Does the invasion replace a normal base raid?

Treat it as its own progression event tied to Mörkhalla rather than waiting for a random raid at your home base. The red map area tells you where the Jotun Advance has happened.

That difference is useful because you can prepare before travelling into the marked zone instead of having the event suddenly arrive while you are repairing a roof.

What should you bring to the invasion?

Use your strongest food set, repair weapons before leaving and carry healing plus stamina support. A mixed group of Jotun can punish a build that runs out of stamina while trying to chase the central objective.

In multiplayer, avoid having everyone tunnel-vision the Malicious Ice. A couple of players controlling Krigen and Hexen while another attacks the objective is safer than the whole group standing in one place taking every spell and melee swing at once.

What if the invasion marker is far away?

That is normal enough to plan for. Valheim’s world is huge, and the event can turn the final biome into a travel problem as much as a combat problem.

Keep spare portal materials at your Deep North base and maintain useful links to older regions. A good network can turn a long sail into a short preparation stop, especially when you have to repeat the sequence for three Malicious Blood rewards.

Quick notes

Valheim Jotun Invasion preparation should start before you break the Mörkhalla trigger.

Valheim Jotun Invasion completion is about reaching and destroying the central Malicious Ice.

Valheim Jotun Invasion rewards are worth planning portal routes around.
