Squid Game took over the internet when it was recently released, becoming the most viewed show on Netflix and it was at the forefront of social media with plenty of memes and controversies.

It was originally stated that Squid Game was a one-and-done deal, with no plans for a Season 2, but the show did end in a way that would set up Season 2, we won’t spoil anything in case you haven’t seen it yet.

Now, as expected, Season 2 of Squid Game has been officially announced by the show’s creator Hwang Dong-hyuk.

In a recent interview posted by AP Entertainment, Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed that the popular Netflix show will be making a return for another season.

“So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice!

But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.

But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this…

Gi-hun will come back, he will do something for the world.”

So, although the planning is still in the early stages, it sounds like the planning has so far been in Dong-hyuk’s mind rather than on paper, it is exciting to see that Squid Game Season 2 is going to happen.

For those that are unaware of what Squid Game is, it is a battle royale/last man standing show which sees many people fight to the death to earn a large cash prize.

If you’ve ever seen the popular 90s and 2000s TV show Takeshi’s Castle, it is basically that, but the loser dies rather than simply eliminated from the competition.

It will be exciting to see what the creators come up with to ensure that Squid Game Season 2 isn’t just more of the same and to stop it from being stale and a repeat of what we saw in Season 1.
