Pokémon TCG Live 1.44.0 patch notes confirm a November 3 update with Expanded matches against friends, a new Inbox and more control over card animations. Pokémon also lists fixes for hidden cards being revealed, unresponsive card effects and several Deck Editor problems. Scheduled maintenance begins at 16:00 GMT in the UK.
The game is expected to be offline for approximately four hours, making 20:00 GMT the estimated return, not a guaranteed reopening. The update prepares for Mega Evolution—Delta Reign, but the new expansion doesn’t launch in-game until November 5. Here are the changes worth knowing before you play.
Pokémon TCG Live 1.44.0 patch notes: new features
The November 3 client update adds a dedicated Inbox for friend requests and match invitations, along with the ability to invite friends into Expanded-format matches. Pokémon says future versions may support additional message types; those haven’t been promised for the initial release.

Expanded friend challenges currently support cards from Sun & Moon onward. The new invitation feature doesn’t make every earlier Black & White or XY card playable. You can already use Expanded in Casual matches, but challenging a particular friend in that format is the new part.
The visual changes are easier to notice. You can slow down or disable holofoil animations, and the old card-sway movement is being replaced with an effect designed to keep the text readable. Mouse-hover and Battle Log VFX controls are moving into Accessibility. Pokémon says you can open Settings from the home screen or during a match.
Pokémon TCG Live 1.44.0 patch notes: gameplay bugs fixed
Several changes address problems that could interfere with a match or lesson. Hidden cards that were shuffled or redrawn could sometimes become visible to an opponent after a related effect activated. Other fixes cover card effects failing to select Prize cards, cards that couldn’t be dragged inside Learning Lab and Big Card View overlapping the selection menu.
These fixes are part of Tuesday’s update. If a problem happens again after you’ve installed 1.44.0, make a note of the card, the action you took and the version you’re running. That makes it easier to distinguish a repeat bug from something that was never covered by the patch.
Specific card corrections in Pokémon TCG Live 1.44.0 patch notes
- Nitro {R} Energy (CRI #086): its image could appear too large when moved from the discard pile to the hand.
- Night Stretcher (SFA #061): the game could become unresponsive if the player didn’t select anything before the timer expired.
- Espathra (SSP #095): Mystical Eyes could fail to devolve an evolved Pokémon on the opponent’s Bench.
- Grafaiai (SSP #121): Mischievous Painting didn’t permit the legal choice of zero Energy.
- Team Rocket’s Nidorina (DRI #115): Dark Awakening didn’t permit selecting zero Pokémon.
These are corrections to how the named cards behave in the client, not changes to their printed effects. Once maintenance is over, you can try those interactions again without assuming that unrelated card problems have also been fixed.
Deck Editor and Ranked Ladder fixes
The Pokémon TCG Live 1.44.0 patch notes also target a slow expansion-sort menu in Deck Editor, empty friend invitations and a blank Build & Battle editor that didn’t recover after an empty search was cleared. A Ranked Ladder icon could wrongly show a reward as unclaimed when the player had already collected it.
Those problems should be distinguished from fixes in the October 1.43.0 patch. Our known-issues guide tracks other reported failures that are not automatically resolved simply because a new client version arrives.
Pokémon TCG Live 1.44.0 patch notes: release date and maintenance
Maintenance starts on Tuesday, November 3 at 08:00 PST / 16:00 GMT. Pokémon estimates around four hours of downtime. If the service isn’t available at exactly 20:00 GMT, that doesn’t by itself mean the update has failed. Consult the official notice for any schedule changes.
The Pokémon TCG Live 1.44.0 patch notes give Thursday, November 5 as the arrival date for Delta Reign content. Don’t confuse the client update with the expansion’s release, and don’t expect the new Battle Pass to begin during Tuesday’s outage.
For players coming back to the game, the headline is simple: friend challenges are gaining Expanded, the Inbox is changing how invitations arrive, and several genuinely frustrating card bugs are getting fixes. The Pokémon TCG Live 1.44.0 patch notes cover the client update; the new set follows on Thursday.
