Unown is appearing for all players in Pokemon Go via raids

Pokemon Go’s Ultra Unlock event is providing F2P players with a rare chance to get themselves an Unown for their Pokedex.

Unown is listed on the Pokemon Go live wiki as being the rarest Pokemon in the game, and if it’s wrong it’s definitely still one of the top contenders for the title because this is a rare opportunity.

Unown available in Pokemon Go

Unown U is now present in 1* raids until at least the 3rd of August. This will make for an excellent chance for many players currently without Unown in their Pokedex to add the elusive Symbol Pokemon to their collection.

As an added bonus, Shiny Unown U is expected to be available during this time as well, making it possible for players to catch both their first Unown and their first Shiny Unown.

Why does Unown in raids matter?

So why is this Unown appearance in raids particularly significant some may be wondering?

Well, the simple truth of the matter is that while Unown supposedly spawns in the wild, the default rate of spawning is incredibly low for this particular Pokemon for all of its variants. With this in mind, finding one in normal circumstances? Probably not happening anytime soon for most players.

There are occasionally events with an Unown boost or feature, with a specific shape of Unown and it’s Shiny being available for a limited time – though these are usually ticketed events.

On this particular occasion, Unown (U-shape) is available to all Pokemon Go players, as it is publicly visible in raids. That is a massive change and gives plenty of Pokemon Go players who’ve never seen Unown before a nice shot at finally adding it to their Pokedex.

Anything else to know?

That’s about everything that’s relevant to this appearance of Unown in Pokemon Go. If you’re interested in the last time it was available during an event, if we exclude Go Fest as ticketed events, then it was almost a full year ago back during Enigma week 2020 in August for a globally available event.

Make sure to keep your eyes open for those rare Shiny Unown while you have the chance trainer, it might be a while before we see them again!
