Persian can be surprisingly strong in Pokemon Go, used as an opener by the likes of Giovanni, but what weakness can you exploit to beat it?

This piece is designed to inform you enough about Persian and its biggest weakness so that you know how to defeat the surprisingly dangerous Classy Cat Pokemon.

What is the biggest weakness of Persian in Pokemon Go

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Pokemon Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual, but there are a few things that remain consistent across all versions of it.

As is true with many other Pokemon, the easiest thing to exploit to defeat a Persian is it’s type.

Persian is simply a pure Normal-Type. In other words, it has Normal-Type strengths and weaknesses, of which there are very few. A benefit of being perfectly average, I suppose.

This pure Normal-Type nature places Persian in a similar position to commonly used Normal-Type tanks such as Snorlax or Slaking, who exploit the lack of super-effective attacks against them with huge health bars and make excellent Gym defenders because of it.

With that said, Persian isn’t a durable Pokemon, not particularly at least. Persian is more a fast attacker, which is an unusual mixture with the Normal-Type in Pokemon Go, as again, the primary beneficiaries of it are simply large health-bar tank-style Pokemon such as Snorlax.

As with all other Normal-Types, you’ll simply want to avoid using Ghost-Type attacks, as they’ll deal a mere 39% damage, and ideally stick with Fighting-Type moves, as they will instead deal a far more generous 160% damage per hit.

In short, the main weakness of Persian in Pokemon Go is Fighting-Type moves.

What moves can Persian use in battle?

Sometimes it can be worth considering what your opponent can hit you with, to try to pick a type that has an advantage against what damage they will do.

With that in mind, Persian has access to quite a few potential moves, but the majority of them are Dark-Type. The lists in full are:

Fast Attacks
  • Feint Attack (Dark)
  • Scratch (Normal)
Charged Attacks
  • Foul Play (Dark)
  • Payback (Dark)
  • Play Rough (Fairy)
  • Power Gem (Rock)
  • Night Slash (Dark)

With all of those covered, if you decide to fight a Persian using a Fighting-Type, your only real concern is if it has Play Rough or not, as both Dark-Type and Rock-Type moves won’t be dealing much damage to your Fighting Pokemon.

Still, watch out for that one Fairy-Type charged attack. It might hit a bit harder than you expect.

Is there anything else?

That’s pretty much it as a Persian goes. Pick a Fighting-Type and go to town, just watch out for Play Rough.

Of course, even if it has Play Rough that just means it can hit back well, you’ll still do plenty of damage using a Fighting-Type against it regardless.

In any case, that’s everything for this short guide. If you’d be interested in reading more about Pokemon Go, you can find more Pokemon Go pieces on The Click right here, and more by me personally here.
