Pokemon Go’s Research Breakthrough for January has been revealed, you’ll be finding the Pokemon Onix in your breakthrough boxes.

When does the Pokemon Go Research Breakthrough update for January?

The Research breakthrough in Pokemon Go will update on the 1st of January at 9:00 PM (GMT) and will stay the same until February 1st at 9:00 PM (GMT) when the December breakthrough will end and the Pokemon available will swap over to Onix.

Given that this is a monthly event, as you might expect this is about how long these events usually last.

Pokemon Go Research breakthrough

For anyone not familiar with Research breakthroughs, when you do a research task for the first time on a given day, you’ll earn a research stamp for it. Each of these adds towards a total counter.

Depending on the month (and thus the research breakthrough bonus) you’ll earn a different reward for each week worth of stamps collected – they don’t have to be on consecutive days, they’ll add up to 7 total regardless of whenever you earn them.

That’ll mean for January you can expect to encounter Onix when you collect that 7th stamp. The process will then reset, allowing you to do it again if you can collect another 7 stamps before the month ends.

Anything else to mention?

As an added bonus during this particularly monthly event, you’ll be able to earn mega energy for Steelix when you complete the breakthroughs.

With that, that’s about everything you’ll need to know for this, research breakthroughs are simple things like that.
