Starting off 2022 in Pokemon Go Community Day events is Spheal, the Clap Pokemon, alongside an array of extras thrown in for the January CD.

Spheal Community Day in Pokemon Go January 2022

Spheal will be opening the Community day events for 2022 in January. The event will take place on January 16th, starting at 11:00 AM local time and running for 6 hours until 5:00 PM local time.

As always with local time, if you’re not familiar with it, don’t stress over it. It just means whatever your timezone says the time currently is will match the in-game time for you, so you just need to worry about getting online for the event at that time for you. There’s no need to even begin to think about time zone conversion for the vast, vast, majority of players – and if you have to, you’re probably aware of a local time flaw that’s affecting your region anyway.

January 2022 Spheal Community day bonuses

As always, a Community day comes with bonuses, and the Spheal CD in January 2022 is no different on that front.

We can expect the usual enhanced and omnipresent spawns of Spheal to occur, alongside tripled capture XP, and a three-hour duration for both Lures and Incense.

Additionally, any Spheal you capture and evolve into Sealeo during the event (or up to two hours after the end) can be evolved again into Walrein to gain the event-exclusive Charged Attack Icicle Spear. It’ll also pack the Fast Attack Powder Snow.

Icicle Spear

This is a new move to Pokemon Go, and while it might not be the most impressive-sounding out of the gate, it seems likely to be reliable – dealing 60 damage in both Trainer battles and PVE game modes such as Gyms or Raids.

As always, if you miss out on an event exclusive move, you can get it later but it’ll cost you an Elite TM to do so, non-Elite TMs cannot teach these moves.

Spheal Community day store items

Spheal’s Community day in January 2022 will come with a free bundle and a premium Community day box.

Starting with the premium Community day box, for 1280 Pokecoins, you can get:

  • 50 Ultra Balls
  • 5 Super Incubators
  • 5 Lucky Eggs
  • Elite Fast TM

I’m not usually a fan of these Community day boxes, but this one does seem a bit better to me than usual at the very least, worth considering if you have the coins spare.

Now, as for the free bundle, you can grab yourself an additional 30 Ultra balls in the store on the day for no added cost.

On top of these Pokecoin purchases, you can also buy a $1 Special Research Story – “The Spheal Deal”, exclusive to the event.

Are there any other worthwhile mentions?

As you might expect from any Community day, AR photos taken during the event might get you photobombed by the star of the show themselves, Spheal.

And of course, being a Community day, the Shiny version of the featured Pokemon is available and will be found at higher rates than usual, making this a perfect chance to find some strong shiny Spheal for anyone who enjoys this particular Pokemon.
