Golurk is making an appearance in 3* raids during the Pokemon Go Ultra Unlock event, but what is the weakness of the Automaton Pokemon?

This article is designed to inform you enough about Golurk and all of its weaknesses to allow you to bring down and capture the armoured Automaton Pokemon for yourself.

What is the biggest weakness of Golurk in Pokemon Go?

As is typical in any Pokemon title, including Go, precisely how strong a Pokemon is and what moves it uses may vary depending on the individual, but there are a few things that remain consistent across all of any given species of Pokemon.

The easiest of these to exploit is often the Pokemon’s Type.

Golurk is a Ground/Ghost Dual-Type Pokemon. It’s an unusual, if not unique combination. It’s also a rather unfortunate one for Golurk as it comes with more than a few weakness targets for us to exploit in Pokemon Go.

So let’s get right into it, this typing has a fair few of both resistances and weaknesses, so we’ll be resorting to lists once again for those.

Golurk Resistances
  • Bug
  • Rock
  • Electric
  • Fighting
  • Normal
  • Poison

As per usual, bolded types are more resisted than the rest. That means only Bug-Type and Rock-Type deal the 62.5% damage of a single reduction, while all the other four deal a measly 39% of their usual damage against Golurk. Ouch.

Golurk Weaknesses
  • Dark
  • Ghost
  • Grass
  • Ice
  • Water

All of these types will deal 160% of their usual damage in battle against Golurk, making them all excellent counter choices in Pokemon Go. But which is the best exactly? Well for that we’ll have to start looking into what moves Golurk can pull off.

What moves does Golurk use in battle?

Fast Attacks
  • Astonish (Ghost)
  • Mud-Slap (Ground)
Charged Attacks
  • Dynamic Punch (Fighting)
  • Earth Power (Ground)
  • Shadow Punch (Ghost)

We have plenty of weakness options to go through here, so let’s try to find the one with the most advantages in this fight to make the most use of it.

Ghost-Type appears promising, with total immunity to Dynamic Punch, but suffers from being weak to… well, other Ghost-Types, meaning Golurk has a good few options there. So Ghost-Type ain’t what we want here, ideally. Dark-Types take a similar path, with good resistance to Golurks Ghost-Type moves, but suffering a weakness to that pesky Dynamic Punch.

Ice-Types have the same weakness to Fighting-Type moves as the Dark-Types do without the advantage of resisting Ghost-Types, so they go out as well for this one. Don’t worry though Glaceon, you’re still the MVP for fighting Dragon-Types.

Water-Types are a solid option, dealing their 160% enhanced damage without any additional risk to Golurks moveset, but Grass-Types take the crown for this one as they have the added benefit of resisting Ground-Type moves as well.

Golurk counters – Summary

In summary, you ideally want to take a Grass-Type focused Pokemon to fight Golurk, but Water-Types are a close second best. Dark and Ghost Types make for good backup plans, while Ice should probably be avoided as it’s strictly worse than taking a Dark-Type for this one.

That’s about everything for how to counter Golurk and get a good shot at capturing it, best of luck folks!
