Pokemon Go: August Research Breakthrough, ft: Chimecho

Pokemon Go Summer Research Breakthrough (August)

Last Updated on: 28th July 2021, 06:49 pm

Pokemon Go’s new Research Breakthrough for August has been revealed, and you’ll find the Pokemon Chimecho and a bit more EXP than usual each time you complete a research task for seven different days.

When does the Pokemon Go Research Breakthrough update?

The Research breakthrough in Pokemon Go will update on the 1st of August at 9:00 PM (GMT+1) and will stay the same until September 1st at the same time.

As you might expect, this is pretty standard fare given the research breakthrough change is a monthly occurrence.

Pokemon Go August Research Breakthrough

For those not familiar with Research breakthroughs, when you do a research task for the first time each day, you earn a research “stamp”, each of these adds towards a total for that month.

For every 7 of these you gather, you activate the research breakthrough for the current month.

Among other things, this means that you encounter the Pokemon featured as the research breakthrough shortly after you gain the 7th stamp. The process then resets, allowing you to potentially repeat it multiple times a month, provided you can clear enough research on different days in that space of time.

For August 2021, the Pokemon Go Research Breakthrough will be Chimecho, the Pokemon shown below.

The additional bonuses this time are a tad curious:

  • You’ll recieve doubled experience upon achieving a research breakthrough
  • As part of the ongoing season of discovery, research breakthroughs award doubled EXP

It seems likely this means that players will receive the original research breakthrough experience in Pokemon Go not once or twice, but three times in total. Not the most exciting, but certainly useful.

Is there anything else?

There really isn’t much else to this one, it’s a simple monthly event in Pokemon Go.

Typically these are used to give a limited number of rare or simply popular Pokemon to the community without adding actual spawns or large scale events, and for this month in particular that’ll be great news for Chimecho fans.
