Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense is a Campaign progression point in Act 4 Chapter 2 that could leave players standing around after every visible enemy appeared to be dead. The Coalition has now acknowledged the blocker and says the October 5 launch patch addresses one cause of the defense objective failing to complete.
The phrase “one cause” is important. It means there is an official fix and updating is the first thing to do, but it would be wrong to promise that every possible Power Station stall has vanished forever. If your objective still does not advance on the current build, the useful goal is to create a clean attempt from a recent checkpoint and work out whether the problem is the same old bug or a different reproducible state.

Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense received a launch-patch fix on October 5. The Coalition specifically addressed one cause of the Act 4 Chapter 2 defense objective failing to complete after all visible enemies had been defeated. Install the latest build before replaying the encounter.
If the Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense was already stuck in a session that began before the patch, we can’t assume that simply installing the update will magically advance an objective that is already in a bad state. Fully restart the game and reload a safe checkpoint before the defense so the encounter can initialise on the current build.
Reload from before the defense encounter
When Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense refuses to complete, the least destructive recovery step is to reload the nearest checkpoint that starts before or at the beginning of the encounter. You are trying to recreate the objective state, not erase the whole Campaign.
If the game offers more than one checkpoint or save option, keep your existing progress and choose the closest sensible restart point. Avoid deleting the save file or starting Act 4 again from scratch until you have confirmed the current patch plus a clean checkpoint still reproduces the blocker.
Make sure the current build is actually running
The October 5 update landed just before global release, which makes stale sessions especially easy to carry over. If Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense is still broken, quit to the platform dashboard or desktop and confirm E-Day has no pending update.
On PC, restart the launcher after the update finishes. On Xbox, fully quit the game rather than resuming a suspended session. This is basic, but it separates a genuine post-patch blocker from a Campaign state that was created on the earlier build.
Check the whole combat space before reloading
The official note describes the Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense issue as the objective failing after all visible enemies were defeated. Before reloading, take a quick sweep of the encounter area and listen for combat audio. If an enemy is genuinely still active or has moved out of your immediate view, the game may simply be waiting for the encounter to finish normally.
We also don’t need to spend half an hour searching geometry for an enemy that the patch notes already tell us can be a progression bug. A quick check is useful. Endless searching is not. If the arena is clearly quiet and the objective still does not move, use the checkpoint restart rather than wasting more time.

What to try in co-op
Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense can be encountered during a Campaign that supports online co-op, so a group should make sure every player has installed the October 5 build before retrying. Have the host restart the game, reload the checkpoint and rebuild the party if the original session was created before the update.
Avoid having one player remain in an old suspended session while everyone else patches. The launch update also contains other Campaign join-in-progress fixes, which makes a clean host session the best baseline when a co-op objective has already behaved strangely.
Do not confuse this with the other Campaign fixes
The Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense fix is for Act 4 Chapter 2. The same October 5 patch separately addresses an Act 2 Chapter 2 objective not updating at Allfather’s Plaza, a Black Raven Down side-objective equipment issue and Act 4 Chapter 1 side objectives that could fail to start during introductory dialogue.
Those problems may all look like “Campaign objective stuck”, but the trigger and chapter matter. Use the October 5 patch guide to match the chapter you are actually playing rather than applying Power Station advice to a different mission.
If the Power Station objective still will not complete
If Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense still fails on the current build after a clean restart and checkpoint reload, keep the save. Note whether you are solo or in co-op, the exact checkpoint, whether all enemies spawned normally and whether the objective text changed at any point.
That is the stage to report the issue to Gears Support because The Coalition’s wording already leaves room for more than one cause. A repeatable post-patch case is useful evidence. Deleting progress is not.
What the October 5 fix changes for players
The biggest improvement is that Gears of War E-Day Power Station defense is no longer an undocumented launch mystery. We know The Coalition reproduced at least one route into the failure and shipped a correction before the standard launch. That gives players a clear first action instead of a pile of speculative workarounds.
Update, restart, reload the encounter and test once on a clean current-build state. If the objective advances, carry on. If it does not, you have a specific Act 4 Chapter 2 blocker to report and you can do that without sacrificing the rest of your Campaign.
